Re: TR4-CW Service Bulletin
Interestingly, Drake used the 6FQ7 in their later TR-4C¡¯s and T-4XC¡¯s.? I have not done any research on new tube availability and prices as they were in the 1970s. It could well be that the bulletin came out prior to Drake deciding to use the 6FQ7¡¯s to replace the 6EV7.? Because none of these are available as new Production, prices are established by supply and demand of the used and NOS tubes. I¡¯m willing to bet that there are many more 6EV7¡¯s available today. And, as you mention, there¡¯s really not a lot of electronic demand on these tubes, when used as relay controls.? It¡¯s interesting, nevertheless.? 73, Steve Wedge, W1ES Time flies like an arrow. Re: NOS TR-4Cw RIT
I purchased my TR4CWrit on eBay almost 10 years ago.? It is a very late serial number (@ 50 or so before the end) and is in almost mint, if not mint, condition; complete with NB.? Came with a AC4 rebuilt with a Heathkit Shop upgrade and a Shure 444 desk mic.....The only thing I did was install a new fuse holder as the old one had broken. ?I use it almost weekly when I NCS the Drake West Coast Net.? Very dependable. I paid $1200....I guess that would be a fantastic price these days... A few years after I bought it,? I bought an RV4C on eBay.? Paid $125 for it supposedly working.? It did not work,? but I fixed it in short order and it has worked flawlessly since.... 73's de Charles, KW6G On Wed, May 17, 2023, 8:40 AM Dennis Schaefer <dennisw5rz@...> wrote: These TR-4CW rigs on ebay have been interesting to me.? Re: Drake 7 Series Cabinet Paint
I sanded my MN2000 and sprayed a few coats of primer and a few coats of satin black. I struggled to get a uniform application from the can so decided to try rolling on the final coat. I got a nice stippled finish that I think closely matches the original. Expand the attached photo to see the texture. I used a 4¡± high quality roller (avoids lint) with 3/8¡± nap. Key to a good result is bright lighting all round so you can see that you have rolled consistently on all sides. Get the paint applied uniformly all over first then roll outward to all edges to get a uniform texture. You still have to spray a few coats first to cover certain areas that a roller can¡¯t reach such as the inside of the rolled front edge of the case.

Ok
I guess I am the one to ask the "dumb" question. Why in the world would I want to replace a 6EV7 with a 6AQ8 considering that a 6AQ8 (ECC85)? is more money than a 6EV7 and requires circuit modifications (albeit simple) In most cases it's DOUBLE the cost of a 6EV7 and at Surplus Sales, they want $59 for one.? Is it that much better? -- 73/RickWA6III*Every post is created using Linux |

There are legitimate small businesses out there that purchase estates and resell through various resources. I can imagine that sometimes this is the best alternative to the family hauling this stuff to the recycler. Shipping is just plain expensive these days.
