TR7 Extender Boards for sale. And a bad DR7 board, maybe.
I was cleaning out my shack and found my set that I bought about 10? years back. Don't recall ever using them.?
I also found a DR7 Board that I blew up and replaced with a new one. Not sure if that is worth anything, but Jim Shorney told me to save it a few years ago. Hi hi. I fried it by leaving the top cover of the TR7 off and keying another radio that was hooked up to a attic antenna directly above.? At least that is what I remember at the time. Maybe a clue as to what may be the issue. Offers anyone? I'm too tired to google. :-) I may still sell my TR7 also.? 73 Bill W4WCS |

Drake 2C on 28.0 to 28.5 MHz
Rick Arzadon - N8XI
I am looking for a Crystal I can insert into the Aux position of the Drake 2C.
?
I believe it is in an HC-6 can and needs to be a 24.5 MHz XTAL.
?
Or an HC-6 can of any frequency that I can take apart and marry a 24.5 MHz HC-49 XTAL to it.
?
Maybe someone may have a different idea?
?
Thanks

Re: Conductive adhesives
What the PROM does is it "monitors" the N-Code fed to the Translator board from the DR7 for two purposes. The first is to disable the action of the Up or Down button when your reach the edge of a band switch segment. This keeps you within the limits of the high pass and low pass filter sections of the band switch. The second is to keep your from transmitting outside of a ham band. It is pretty clever really. The address lines of the PROM follow the N-Code and the contents of the PROM memory at any given address will either enable or disable the buttons as needed and also operate Q9001 to inhibit transmit in 500 KHz segments that do not contain a ham band.
The radio will work perfectly well with the PROM removed entirely but you would need to be mindful of the filter edges. Worst case, you could smoke a low pass section by transmitting above it's cutoff frequency or transmit unwanted harmonics. A known failure mode of these PROMS is one of the address lines going shorted which disrupts the N-Codes. This may be from careless handling causing ESD damage as the PROM inputs are tied directly to the male Molex pins on the bottom of the board. PROMs are available if you need one. 73 -Jim NU0C On Fri, 24 Mar 2023 15:11:39 -0700 "kmg53 via groups.io" <kmg53@...> wrote: (Belated) Thanks, Nick. I have time again to work on it. Re: TR-4C Weird Front-End Tuning
I am going to be looking into this, as I have a TR-4Cw RIT that is also doing some squirrely things on 20m.? I can get it to go into what I believe are oscillations on 20m when I adjust the driver, so the first place I'll look will be at the driver circuit.? I also seem to have low output but that may be bad finals.? All will be revealed, once I finish redoing half of my operating position. 73, Steve Wedge, W1ES/4 Time flies like an arrow.? Saturday 20m Net
It looks as if, as I expected, putting together a 20m net would have fewer scheduling conflicts if done on a Saturday. Does anyone have a handy list of 20m SSB nets?? I'm looking at around 1630 eastern time as being a possibility.? All we need to do now is look at available frequencies.? Unfortunately for me, I will be away from the station Saturday but if any of you have a suggested frequency, let 'er rip. 73, Steve Wedge, W1ES/4 Time flies like an arrow.? Fruit flies like a banana.

Re: T4XB Major Bummer
Wow!? I didn't know they went up that high!? This shows that Drake had issued serial numbers by stamping the chassis first, I would say.? The first T-4XB in Ron's database is 13434, so there's definitely overlap!? The first documented (via QC tag) T-4XB was inspected on 9 April [1971] -- I believe the year is in error, as all the other early T-4XB's were made in 1968.? The last documented T-4X is dated 7 AUG 1967. For the purposes of this discussion, if you're looking at a parts set for the FUNCTION switch and look at T-4X's, if it has a 3-deck switch, it should be useable in a T-4XB. 73, Steve Wedge, W1ES/4 Time flies like an arrow.? T-4X (late) vs T-4XB
Hi, gang! I have my T-4X in front of me.? I was fortunate to have obtained my A Line from a friend who had had it in storage for around 20 years.? I have replaced the can cap and other electrolytics but otherwise, this is a completely unmolested set with a QC tag indicating that it was inspected on 11 May 1967 by 'WF' -- could have been Bill Frost :-) The serial number is 13307B (yes, there is a letter on this one!) and is the second latest T-4X in Ron's database. Aside from the dust, it looks almost new. I suspect that the change in the function switch occurred around the same time that the addition of the crystal characteristics and could have been Drake using up the last of the front panels and chassis before rolling out the B Line.? The mic jack is still on the front panel, the PLATE AMPS meter still goes to 0.4 and it completely appears the same as a T-4X, otherwise. I will attach a photo of the function switch in a reply to this, as I'm composing this on my computer and took a photo with my phone (it's just easier...). In the meantime, can any of you who have later T-4X's take a quick look at your transmitters?? In particular, the fastest way to see if it has the later function switch is to try transmitting SSB with a plug in the KEY jack.? If you can get modulation, it's the later version.? Also note the serial number.? This was a functional upgrade to the transmitter that is not really practical to retrofit.. Steve Wedge, W1ES/4 Time flies like an arrow.? Fruit flies like a banana.
