The extension of lamp and tube life applies to pure tungsten filaments.? These were common in large transmitting tubes.? For receiving tubes the general reccomendation is to keep filament voltage to within about +/- 5%. This applies to tjoriated tungsten also but voyage can be lowered somewhat if emission is monitored.? Eimac has authoritative information in their tube application notes. A place where lowered voltage is often found is the filament of the 6H6 and 6AL5 twin diodes when used as detectors an noise clippers.? These tubes have a tendency to produce hum which is reduced by lowering filament voltage by about a volt. However in general its not a recommended practice.? during WW2 RCA published charts showing the effect of filament voltageon tube life for pure tungsten filaments. I don't off hand remember the numbers but a relatively small reduction increases life substantially with relatively small reduction in emission.

Seems to me I do not hear the stations looking for relief there from my QTH in Toronto. Maybe if I was more central into the USA. As it is my main rigs go fine to Warc if need be so I will not risk over use of TR7 buttons ever...just stick with primary rigs when required. Easy. Maybe I do FAUX diode matrix someday... That is true but if you do a lot of band hopping you wear out the Up/Down buttons (and your finger). And yes, there is activity on the WARC bands. Especially on major contest weekends when the refugees hang out there. I have the QST/Far Circuits board in three rigs and need to get a couple more. This one worked well for me when I lived in VE3, but the western one is out of California and doesn't work so well from southern?BC.
The Kenwood Hybrid nets are as follows; Saturday on 7.242 mhz at 3:30 pm EST/EDT. Sunday on 14.316 Mhz at 1800 UTC.
I have checked into the Sunday one on 20m, run by Mark, WB0IQK, with some help from others.? Seems lots of mid-USA and west coasters manage to check in OK, but it helps if you have a beam and 500w+.? I use one of the 30L-1's typically with the Kenwoods and that seems to work. It can get crowded at times on .316 but a regular group gathers for the hour prior to the Sunday net and politely "saves them a spot"!
I rarely ever hear the 40m nets from the east.? A 40m vertical doesn't cut it, and I'm away too much in the winter anyways when it?is a possibility.? Summer is a write-off from BC at that time and distance.
I used to occasionally check into the Drake group out of California - Friday nights I think?? Not really a net....that also does a real-time online video at the same time.? I don't recall the platform they used.? It worked pretty well....but again Fridays tend to be busy days for me into the evening.? I have not checked in for several years now.? Somebody here would likely know more about that one.
I see Mark has just listed the "vintage nets" which are not manufacturer specific.

My first TR7 had the AUX, sold it when I downsized/renovated our house some years back.
my second one does not have AUX. Not to berate those who want... but I just did the PC trace cut and enabled all band XMIT and I just use the buttons on front to move to the area. For me the WARC are a 'bit' of a hoax.. wherein I don't see much on 30m...some on 12 and 17 re. activity sometimes. i know band solar condx affect but it seems after all this time since WARC 1979 those bands still have not really caught on generally, IMHO.Hence I am happy with the extra work just using the buttons to get to WARC areas. That said, there once was a time I did seem to have a pipeline on 17m and worked Africa quite a bit as well as a few commercial planes in transit. So there is/was activity there. Maybe I just don't spend enough time in the chair with a radio waiting for The Big Trout to come into the river from his lair.... That said... my CW filters are old in that rig.. hollow and ringing...rig is no fun in that state.... so I have already contacted Noble to get new filters once and for all.... or the rig goes to someone who will KNOW they can only use it on SSB as it currently stands.
