Thank you Ken and it looks better. Still have to fix my TR& as it does not transmit either hi.

Does anybody have a good clean clear copy of the schematic for the TR5? Or maybe a place I can download one. I have one but when you blow it up the resolution is terrible as lines are missing etc. I am trying to get the tranmsitter putting out power. I have already installed a new pair of matched finals as one was bad and now I have found that the RX/TX, TX mixed for the transmitter was bad and the 2N4427 had a base to collector short and that took out the base resistor. I have a couple new transistors but would like to make sure there are no other problem around the TX mixer. Thank you.

Re: TR7 TX Exciter Are there 2 versions?

Nice catch. Those 1/4 Watt carbon comp resistors that Drake used seen prone to that.

Re: TR7 TX Exciter Are there 2 versions?

Yes, there was to the Predriver board. The Transmit Exciter is a completely different board. Both Predriver version are covered in the service manual.

I suspect the difference is largely cosmetic. Drake started using boards with solder mask in later years. These will have a green coloring while earlier boards are bare tinned copper. A surf of eBay offerings confirms this. Other than the solder mask and packaging of some components they look pretty much the same.

Re: TR7 TX Exciter Are there 2 versions?

Well, no. That is the Predriver board, which did have a major change. The Transmit Exciter board is where the mic amp, PTT/VOX, and balanced modulator live.

Re: Harbach AC4 Power Supply Review

Doug,
How long did it take for you to receive the kit after placing the order?

Just finished the AC4 Harbach power supply update and wanted to pass on my comments.

The kit arrived in a small box and included two assembled boards and a small bag of parts and hardware. The assembly went great with instructions available at the Harbach site. The instructions are basically Heathkit style and if you can follow directions, can solder, and have the rudimentary tools needed then you are good to go. I did most of the assembly in one night, but had to wait for the power cord gland I had ordered. The gland method of power cord restraint works very well. The only problem was the cover lip at that location was too long because the new gland was larger than the original wire strain relief. I just broke off the lip, which meant that the screw position could not be used. The bottom cover has many screws, and one missing is no big deal. I have not updated any other Drake supplies or used other products so I can only speak for this design and if I had it to do over again, I would not hesitate using this one.

I'll second Doug's experience.

I used the same kit on a rebuild I did about 6 months ago.? Modification / modernization came out fine as did Doug's.? Instructions were clear.?
