FWIW, I log all of my QSO's made with my vintage gear (Drake and Kenwood Hybrids) on paper and every once in a while, I transcribe them into DXLab.
DXLab is a complete package that can do an amazing amount of things but it does have a fairly steep learning curve.? It is freeware and is supported very well but you need to read up on it, first.
I used DXBase up until around 2003 but then they started requesting paid subscriptions for each update and I moved on.? Ham software is not a business where programmers can make much money but I found the frequent need to pay for updates to be a bit on the steep side.
IMO, what QRZ is doing with respect to blocking a call from the database is totally uncalled for and I will leave it at that.

Really glad to hear that you found hams to help you sort out the logging stuff. I recently (within the past 2 years) got back into HF after a 30 year hiatus. I too had to learn all the digital stuff and bring my logs into the 21st century. I sync my log with QRZ.com and use QRZ.com to sync with LoTW. QRZ.com does a good job of removing dupes, which keeps my LoTW clean.
I am using CQRLOG at the moment. My shack computer was running Linux, but recently switched to Windows 11. I run CQRLOG in WSL. If you need any help with your transition into the digital ham radio world, please feel free to reach out.

Hello to the group,
Does anyone know of a source for the Drake DSR-2 knobs, especially the main tuning knob?

Looks like some dodgy soldering to boot. That bottom solid wire actually looks like a cold joint at the relay. 73 -Jim NU0C On Sun, 26 Jun 2022 12:15:34 -0700 "David KE6YX" <dacuttler@...> wrote: Malcolm,
In addition to all the previously mentioned checks, here is one more.
A few months ago I too acquired a. 2NT, which had some weird phantom power issues that would come and go. It turned out to be a relay problem.
In the attached photo you can see 2 short solid wires going to RCA sockets. Any slight side or vertical load from a cable plug would flex the fixed contacts, and the transmitter would go crazy. This was with the socket screws tight.
Once I figured out what was going on, I replaced the 2 straight solid wires with light weight stranded wires shaped into a horseshoe, which eliminated any pressure on the relay contacts. The transmitter has operated perfectly since then.
This may not be your problem, but it's worth checking.

I'll cast a vote for Logger32. I installed Zakanaka (it's early incarnation) in about 1999 and 11,000+ QSO's later it's still going strong. There's a fair learning curve, but works really nicely .

Malcolm,? In addition to all the previously mentioned checks, here is one more.? This may not be your problem, but it's worth checking.?

many, many thanks to jim, john and dick for the kind advice. now, i can enjoy this hot summer afternoon indoors checking out three possibilities for my “new” log and listening to field day.... ? i realize there are alternatives. it’s just that i am new to electronic logging after 35 years off the air. i was just getting comfortable with QRZ.com and enjoyed putting together my little home page. i subscribed so i could move contacts over to eQSL. then, to be offered no help and told (in so many words) that whatever my issue, it was my fault and then have it all ripped away without warning, including the free account (i mean, who does that? well...KG7MAK, that’s who) was just plain hurtful. he probably destroyed all my data in the process. what an infantile and vindictive way to act. ? ?

Re: Hello from a new Drake owner (with a problem, of course :-)
Thanks, David. I'm learning my way around electronics troubleshooting in general and tube gear in particular. I figured out the problem. It was something silly, but I needed to understand how it worked. Why would I pick up tones from my signal generator on 80M but nowhere else? It turns out the auxiliary crystal switch was bad. I knew it was broken off, but figured it was still switching back and forth. I was wrong. The VFO was getting the tone from the signal generator on 80 but there was nothing to mix on the other bands. I shorted the open switch and signals started booming in on all bands.
It's pretty clippy with full RF gain but otherwise doing a nice job. I'm sure it needs an alignment now, but it sure is nice to get it working! -- 73 de Steve K9NUD ..

Re: Hello from a new Drake owner (with a problem, of course :-)
Hi Steve, For tube gear that has set for long amounts of time it is vitally important that you clean the tube pins and tube socket pins so that you are not getting intermittent electrical contact. This can be as simple as taking the tubes out of their sockets and putting them back in again several times. I like to use a littttttttllle squirt of DeOxit on the tube socket pins and then insert/remove the tube a couple of times. Doing just that has cleared up multiple problems on tube radios I have had.
Check the input impedance on your Fluke. The higher end Flukes have 10 Mohm input impedance. If you have that you should be good on the voltage measurements (if anyone else has experience with this, please advise).
