Apply to participate in the new Partners Advancing Climate Equity (PACE) program

I wanted to be sure folks on this listserv received the announcement about a new initiative for organizations serving frontline communities.

The California Strategic Growth Council (SGC) is proud to launch Partners Advancing Climate Equity (PACE), a new program providing training and technical assistance to frontline community members seeking to build community capacity to drive climate action and resilience. PACE participants will connect with other leaders from across California while receiving support to advance action on climate-related projects in their communities.

PACE is a year-long program split into two six-month phases. In Phase 1, participants will engage in virtual workshops and supplemental activities for approximately 10-15 hours per month. Once the cohort concludes, select participants will receive technical assistance in Phase 2 to for greater support on project development. Participants will receive a stipend up to $8,000, in-depth training, and individualized mentorship to cultivate skills in:

Navigating State funding programs, policies, resources, and decision-making processes.
Performing data-driven community needs assessments and developing actionable plans.
Forming and sustaining cross-sector partnerships that maximize collective impact strategies.
Leveraging available resources to advance local climate resilience and social equity priorities.

We are looking for community leaders from across California interested in advancing their community’s vision for climate resilience and social equity. By joining the inaugural cohort, you can help launch a new cycle of capacity building and community empowerment!

The application to join the PACE cohort is now open and due Thursday, December 3 at 5:00 p.m. The PACE team will host an informational webinar on Monday, November 16 from 11:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. to provide potential applicants an opportunity to learn more and ask questions. PACE is supported in part by a grant from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency Office of Environmental Justice, and SGC is proud to implement PACE in partnership with partnership with Local Government Commission, Climate Resolve, Urban Permaculture Institute, Movement Strategy Center, and The Greenlining Institute. PACE will offer programming in both English and Spanish.

Continuing the conversation after yesterday's DAC webinar

As mentioned, I wanted to follow up a couple of unanswered questions attendees submitted on cap-and-trade proceeds (see below), which fund DAC programs through CA Climate Investments (CCI).

1. Does it look like the Cap & Trade Funding model is stable and working? [I heard this might be in question, but not sure what the issue was -- but appreciate any insight on trends or concerns about maintaining funding levels for DAC/LI projects.]

2. When will cap and trade reach its logical conclusion when all have capped out and can no longer emit emissions

I'd recommend the following readings on this topic and would encourage others that have insight to share more information.

Sales of California pollution permits rebound in 3rd quarter (AP, August 25, 2020)

Summary of Proceeds to California and Cosigning Entities (CA Air Resources Board, September 2020)

I'd also highly recommend folks register to attend a CCI event for local governments (Wednesday, December 9th) to hear about resources available for sustainability projects. This webinar could be a place to ask questions regarding the status of cap-and-trade auction revenues and expected budgets for CCI/DAC programs.

Thank you for signing up to participate in this new listserv! The purpose of the DAC Climate Listserv is to share questions, information, resources and lessons learned relevant to helping local governments pursue a energy and climate opportunities available to DACs in California. We are excited to begin the conversation at this Wednesday's BPC Spotlight Event: How Disadvantaged Communities Can Take Advantage of Dedicated Energy and Climate Opportunities (10/21 @ 1pm). If you haven't registered yet, you can still do so using this link. As the moderator, I'm excited about our line up of speakers and am looking forward to your participation in the event.

In the meantime, I'd love to learn more about the folks joining this listserv and help us get to know each other a bit.
