Re: ID-1 Ethernet Port

For everyone's information. We had one fellow, who just could not make his ID-1 work. Probably spent 8 hours trying different settings, etc. He tried everything, except a different Cat 5 cable. I assume everyone can guess as to the source of the problem. ?

Non-network/non-technical persons would switch the names around --
because if you put a VOM trace on one side of a flat piece of 8-wire
satin wire to the other side, you would call that "straight through".
But, if you put a pair of 8-pin module connectors properly on it, and
you study it, you'ld see that Pin 1on one side becomes Pin 8 on the
other -- where the wire pairs are "rolled".

Try swapping the beige plastic coupler between radios and see if the
problem follows the coupler. If it does, go to Radio Shack or Home
Depot and LOOK CAREFULLY at the couplers in the blister packs. Study it
for straight-through versus rolled.

REF030 Testing on Monday, 5/10 @ 9 pm CDT

----- Forwarded Message ----
testing REF030 before Dayton
Posted by: "aa4rc" aa4rc@... aa4rc
Date: Sat May 8, 2010 7:04 am ((PDT))

Hi folks. We are going to conduct a test of REF030 on Monday night, May 10th at 10 Eastern, 9 Central, 7 Pacific time.
REF030 module B will be used (if all works well) for Dayton this year.

We'd like for folks that have the time on Monday to link in and help test. Repeaters, DV Dongles, DVAPs, and hotspots are welcome.

We will start on module B and then some folks will split off to another module to test concurrency.
We've seen some issues with packet loss when multiple modules are receiving simultaneously on this reflector so we'd like to test to try to determine the issue.

If we find issues, we might also hop over to another reflector to do some testing.
If you are available to help, you might want to have REF001, 002, 014, and 030 programmed into your radios for linking.
If problems are encountered that block communications on REF030, please hop over to REF002 module A as a backup for instructions.

The format will be a directed net. Please do not transmit until asked to do so by net control.

Thanks and 73s!
Robin

Non-network/non-technical persons would switch the names around --
because if you put a VOM trace on one side of a flat piece of 8-wire
satin wire to the other side, you would call that "straight through".
But, if you put a pair of 8-pin module connectors properly on it, and
you study it, you'ld see that Pin 1on one side becomes Pin 8 on the

Try swapping the beige plastic coupler between radios and see if the
problem follows the coupler. If it does, go to Radio Shack or Home
Depot and LOOK CAREFULLY at the couplers in the blister packs. Study it
for straight-through versus rolled.

Thanks for the suggestions, removed the Couplers altogether.

Eyeballed the RJ-45 this morning and noticed some of the plastic between the pins was slightly bent, straightened it up and then the ethernet port is being recognised. Radio was receiving from Ethernet Port and sending data over RF. However data directed at it's IP address wasn't making it out the ethernet port (looking at it using tcpdump).

Re-crimped the RJ-45 and still the same issue. So to discount the cable/RJ-45 being faulty. I think I'm going to swap that little pigtail with one from another radio (that I know works), as I have access to more than two radios.

ID-1 Ethernet Port

Hi,

I've 4 ID-1's. Three of them behave perfectly fine in all respects including DD mode. The 4th however doesn't get recognised by any of the machines I have and they all refuse to acknowledge that anything is plugged into their ethernet ports.

Has anyone come across this before or am I doing something monumentally stupid? This ID-1 has been back to ICOM already and they say it's fine (I'll be ringing them again this morning to check exactly how they tested it).
