Hello, this ist Stefan, DL 1 BH, from the northern part of germany,
i have the same experience, modulation in fm mode is much too "high", in my opinion in dv it seems to be ok,
i took several mikes, the best results gave the original microfon of an old 706.
Please let me know your experience,
thanks in advance and excuse my bad school english,

?

Has anyone found a way to improve the transmit audio quality from the
ID-1 with the HM-154 microphone? It seems that this combination is
lacking in the upper audio frequencies.

When using a repeater to crossband to a IC-2820, the lack of fidelity
is evident when listening to the ID-1 on the 2820, and the fairly good
quality of the 2820 comes through the ID-1 speaker. This all points
at the ID-1 or HM-154 as the item not being the best. Since it's
digital from the radio, through the repeater, and out to the next
radio, repeaters don't affect the audio quality; they just pass bits.

Debugging 23cm DD mobile connection back in 2004

Erik Finskas

I finally uploaded a video from our Dayton Hamvention roadtrip. There was two ID-1's on board, mounted to the trucks of Jim N5MIJ and Bill N5ZPR. Of course we needed a wireless internet connection between the cars. There was a cellular internet access in another car, and they shared the connection to Bill's truck via WIFI, and our truck was then behind that WIFI connection.

We had the freedom to wonder around, did not have to stay in close formation with the others as 23cm DD worked OK on the highway over several miles, while WIFI needed a true closed circuit to work OK from car to car...

Enjoy :)

Re: windows 7 issues

Kerry Atkinson

¿ªÔÆÌåÓý

I run my ID1 on Windows 7 with no issues whatsoever.? The secret to installing the drivers is to forget what the documentation says and do the following:

1)????? ?Fire up your laptop

2)????? Fire up your radio

3)????? Plug the radio into the USB port you are going to use

4)????? When the auto install asks for the drivers, select the windows XP drivers from the CD that came with the radio

5)????? When it complains about them not being Vista or 7 drivers tell the machine you are smarter than it is and to install them anyway.

6)????? Once it has installed the driver unplug the radio from the computer and wait a minute or two then plug it back in again

7)????? If the software says that the radio can¡¯t be found (and this will probably be the case), click on the windows button and then right click on computer and select properties

8)????? On the left menu select Device Manager

9)????? Expand the Ports(com & lpt)

10)?? Note what com port is assigned to the ID1

11)?? Close all these windows

12)?? On the ID1 software select the com port (or type it in if it isn¡¯t available from the drop down menu) that you found in step 10

13)?? Software should now work.

?

If you tried to install the USB drivers before you plugged in the radio, you will have to go to the Universal Serial Bus Controller section of Device Manager and uninstall it.? I had to do this as well and found that I simply uninstalled all the host controllers rebooted and then followed the steps above.

?

I hope that this helps

If this is really an issue for you here is the solution..

Just download the free product from MS (WIN XP Mode Virtual XP PC)

On WIN7/64pro...??? That gives you a 32 bit environment that IS WINXP

To use with this one application or any others that you choose.

I have been unsuccessful in getting my ID-1 to work with my Windows 7 computer too. I was the one who brought this up on this reflector a few months ago. I had an XP machine that failed and the ID-1 worked perfectly with that, but no matter what I try, the new computer just won't recognized either the ID-1 or the disc that came with it.

When did you get your software? Is there a date on the DVD? After 2007, there is a Vista driver included in the software, which might work.

Viewing the New Star of Ham Radio

Surfin': Viewing the New Star of Ham Radio

By?Stan Horzepa, WA1LOU
Contributing Editor

February 05, 2010

This week, Surfin' explores D-STAR via the telescope known as ¡°the Internet.¡±

The??is an excellent place to start learning about the Digital Smart Technology for Amateur Radio.

Digital Smart Technology for Amateur Radio -- better known as D-STAR -- is a means of transmitting and receiving voice and data digitally, rather than via analog means. Developed by the Japanese Amateur Radio League () and championed by ICOM, the system first hit the airwaves in late 2004.

Like most things that were "new" in ham radio (such as SSB, FM and packet), D-STAR grew slowly at first, but began taking off during the end of the last decade and now has approximately 11,000 users today. Most of those users are on the air using D-STAR repeaters, which number more than 500 worldwide. Linking repeaters over the airwaves and via the Internet provides long range communications far beyond the normal boundaries of 2 meters, 70 cm and 23 cm, i.e., the bands where D-STAR operates.

If D-STAR is of interest to you, there are some Web sites that you should check out. Your first stop should be the?? you will find D-STAR news, applications, maps and a FAQ, as well as many other things that are D-STAR-centric.

Another place to stop is the?? has a short and simple guide that explains the basics of D-STAR.

?should also be on your D-STAR tour. There you will find lists of active D-STAR users and repeaters, as well as??

Last, but not least, be sure to check out the?? from ICOM. Their site also has more details about the mode, as well as a FAQ.

Until next time, keep on surfin'!

Editor's note: Stan Horzepa, WA1LOU, is decidedly digitally disposed. To contact Stan, send him?e-mail?or add comments to his.
