The IC-9100 can do D-STAR Digital Voice on 10m, 6m, 2m, 70cm & 23 cm which includes low-speed data, but it cannot do high-speed data on 23 cm. 73, Mark, WB9QZB On Mon Jun 20th, 2011 8:19 AM EDT ww8zz wrote:

"Repeaters from A to D": A D-STAR Primer
Hi, everyone I've just uploaded a free PDF of an extensive article I wrote for the SERA Repeater Journal. I call it "Repeaters from A to D ¨C Analog to D-STAR."? It's available for download on my web site:?.?? From the home page, scroll down and open the link near the bottom for "OTHERSTUFF."? It's there along with other articles I've written and videos I've produced.
It's written for hams who know little or nothing about D-STAR, and for hams who have been in D-STAR for a while but want to understand more. I've gotten a lot of good comments from magazine readers, and many requests for copies. I'm offering this without copyright. Feel free to post it, copy it, republish it any way you like. Some day I'll make this into a movie! But for now, you can read the screenplay. 73, Gary KN4AQ ARVN: Amateur Radio//Video News |
Re: ARRL to Host Two D-STAR Webinars, Basics & EmComm
When I subscribed to the Atlantic dstar webinars there was no fee and I did not have "go to meeting" installed on my computer. It opens up (runs) in my browser. When you register you will get an email with a log in web link to participate. Pretty easy. Sly n5gqb On Jun 19, 2011, at 1:13 AM, Mark Thompson <wb9qzb_groups@...> wrote:

ARVN Video of Complete 2010 Dayton D-STAR Forum
________________________________________________________________________
1a. ARVN Video of Complete 2010 Dayton D-STAR Forum Posted by: "Gary Pearce KN4AQ" kn4aq@... kn4aq Date: Fri Jun 3, 2011 8:10 am ((PDT)) Hi, everyone, I've just put the ENTIRE 2010 D-STAR Friday Afternoon Forum from the Dayton Hamvention up on my web site. This isn't a preview, it's the whole thing! YouTube just lifted my 10 minute restriction, and I'm celebrating - woohoo! Well, really I feel bad that I never got to editing the 2010 Hamvention footage. But I'm getting an early jump on everything I shot this year, and I'm including stuff I did last year, and this is first out of the box. This is 2010, not 2011. 2011 is coming in a few weeks. But there's lots of really good, and still current info in this forum. It has Robin Cutshaw AA4RC on the DVDongle, DVAP and DPLUS; Dan Smith KK7DS on D-RATS; and Greg Lake G4ULF on his non-ICOM D-STAR repeaters. If you've never seen an ARVN DVD, this is a good introduction. There is a lot of ham radio and Hamvention footage on YouTube. I think you'll see... and HEAR... a big difference with ARVN. The presenters are miked. The audience is miked for Q&A. Multiple cameras, including one dedicated to the slide screen so you see everything. No boomy, reverb-filled sound, shaky cameras and fast swishes to the slides (or missing slides). And they're edited to remove the dead spots, like when computers doing the presentations crash! (Maybe we should leave that in). So this one's free! I can't do it ALL free, sadly. But the DVDs are reasonable - typically $15 to $20 (Dayton DVDs are $15, plus $3 shipping). It's in the Dayton section of my web site: www.arvideonews.com. There's a little link at the top right - I'll be making a bigger splash once the whole 2011 collection is done. While you're there, check out "The Last BIG Field Day," my new documentary. Not one second of D-STAR, but hams don't live by bits alone, except maybe Robin. 73, Gary KN4AQ ARVN: Amateur Radio//Video News Gary Pearce KN4AQ 508 Spencer Crest Ct. For more information and to make dinner reservations, visit ASAP because reservations must be made in advance and close end-of-day on Monday. May 16. *** "Power from Space and in Your Shack" By Bob Bruninga, WB4aPR Last year Solar energy passed from a niche market for greenies to an economic opportunity that beats money in the bank.? The monetary return for every dollar on your roof can exceed 10% per year for life which far exceeds the security of any other investment in a bank or our fickle economy.? But this economic advantage is overlooked, misunderstood or wasted by many hams because of our warped and twisted prior love-affairs with batteries and generators on which we depend for field-day and emergency power. To fully grasp today's economics of renewable energy we must learn to completely separate our needs for economical energy 99.9% of the time from our desires for emergency power for only 0.1% of the time.? There are economical solutions for both but they are separate and mutually exclusive. Further, over the last decades there has been a hidden evolution of power supplies in every aspect of our daily lives.? Everything we do with energy from our ham shack to our big screen TV depends on this technology but it has also provided us with unbelievable versatility to access power from just about any source from 100 to 240 VAC or 100 to 330 VDC or any voltage down to 12 volts.. Where to find power?? Have you looked on the roof of your house or under the hood of your car recently? The better that hams understand these subtle evolutionary changes in energy, the better we are prepared not only for Field Day, for emergencies but also for the future of our families. _______________________________________________ tapr-announce mailing list |
