Re: Help FOR DSTAR DD - UPDATE

If NAT is turned off then the traffic neither leaves with the WAN IP address and returning traffic would simply be dropped.

A little correction, you do still need to configure NAT for 10.0.0.2/32 (or maybe /31), since the gateway (at 10.0.0.2) still needs to talk to the Internet, for D-STAR routing to other gateways.

If I understand how DD routing works, it uses the D-STAR callsign routing to get the encapsulated Ethernet packet to the remote gateway and ultimately to the remote ID-1 -- access to the Internet happens when the gateway itself is the destination and it drops the packet onto the local Ethernet directed towards the IP gateway at 10.0.0.1 and the NAT magic allows it to communicate to systems on the Internet (as opposed to other DD stations which are connected by D-STAR routing).

If someone has definitive information otherwise, please let us know - these suggestions are based on my observations.

Hello Mark, Maurizio and manage iz3cyw are some repeaters Italians.

I also have some form DD ICOM connected to repeaters in the Veneto.

In Italy it is not allowed to access the internet through the wireless network.

I want to create an intranet DSTAR with some services only for amateurs, but I'm notnetworking expert.

I have some things to ask:
- Do you know how to drive traffic to a DD and intranet to the Internet?
- Do you know how to activate a server for intranet email only DSTAR?

Thanks for the help.

Re: Help FOR DSTAR DD

I'm afraid that will not work because you have to have the 10. address range available for other DD nodes and if you want to do any kind of local based services.? My suggestion would be to put filters in the Internet Router blocking everything EXCEPT 10.0.0.0 / 8 address range.?? Another way would be to block DNS queries TCP/UDP 53 outside of Gateway PC.? This way, when you try to browse to an address it will not go anywhere.

After the SuperBowl I'll set up a test here on the 1.2G system I have for a test here at the house and find and document a way to handle just this type of scenario.

Automatic Reply Function?

Does the ID-1 have an Automatic Reply Function like the 2820?
If a station specifies my call sign, my ID-1 is set automatically to reply to that call sign? Looking at the manual it appears to be there, but it isn't clear. It's difficult to test by myself.

Thanks, Arnold

Thanks for posting Mark.

Looking at this file on Page 6 of 23 I do not agree on the DHCP comment. It DHCP appears to be passed just timing is perhaps somewhat messed up. At the Marine Corps Marathon we have discovered that the sometimes our computers appear to get dhcp settings just fine. Have not done lots of testing since we tell folks what ip addresses to use. Just some of the operators forget to set then discover all works fine.

Re: RP-2D & ID-1 Sensitivity in DD mode

The width of the signal has a huge impact on the distance.? A 10w CW vs PSK vs FM vs DD vs TV signal have hugged differences in coverage. Why else do you think that TV stations run megawatts?

?

BUT, the coverage isn’t necessarily as bad as one may think. During a recent exercise, we were sending DD from about 50 miles away, line of sight. And I mean line of sight because the end point was an airplane.? Calculations indicate that with the existing transmit and receiver performance, and ?a better than lossy antenna/feedline solution, that the coverage could be up to about 100 miles. As I said, we know that it made it to 50 and the signal was still strong.

?

KJ4VO is able to do his commute on 1.2 up to about 25 miles away from the repeater.

?

Basically, if you can see the tower, you can talk to it.

At a recent D-STAR forum someone in the audience contended the sensitivity of the RP-2D was poor and that is why DD range is 2/3 of DV.
I didn't ask them how they knew this, but I did mention that DD is a wide-band signal which could account for some of the range reduction.

They wanted to know if anyone has been able to improve the sensitivity of a RP-2D & DD through a pre-amp or another means?

100W @ 23cm? Maybe try 10W. But indeed turnaround is going to be a big issue.

The addition of a DEMI preamp to our 23 cm DV repeater made a huge difference. I would assume the addition of a preamp to the Data box would make a similar difference. A power amp on the Data box would sure be nice too. The problem is how to switch the pream and/or power amp in and out. I can't believe there is a vacuum relay that would be fast enough. A PIN diode switch to handle 100 W @ 23 cm, with sufficient isolation to keep from blowing the preamp, would be pricey. How to key it in and out is not readily apparent, either. I would sure like to add both a preamp and a power amp to our Data box. But, it looks quite challenging and expensive. Anybody out there done it or have some ideas?

Hi Everybody,

After long last, I have finished(I hope) and have presented my ID-RP2C Interface Implementation Document for general release.

The prototype is what you see in these?YouTube videos?:-

You can find ID-RP2C Interface v1.1.pdf in the Files section of this group. Look in the ID-RP2C Interface folder.
I have also uploaded a .jpg of the schematic as well. (ATTACHED TO THIS MESSAGE AS WELL).?

Several of these interfaces have been built and are working well. Dan KC8ZUM is successfully using two at the K8BIG D-Star repeater in Cincinnati.

If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to email me, or give me a call via D-Star on VK5REX B/C or wherever you hear me!(make sure you take the time difference into account, I'm 10.5 hours ahead of UTC)

Enjoy!

Michael.
