Re: OT: Ubiquity Bullet2

I've seen several designs for biquad feeds on the internet, and there are people selling made units on ebay with instructions for how to mount them to a dish.

I don't know the answer, but let us know if you find it. When I have looked at the product line, I've thought that perhaps the Rocket model would be better for a link, since it does full duplex.
BTW, does anyone have a good feed design to use surplus DishNetwork dishes at 2.4 ghz. and know what the gain might be?

Hi Ron.

that's not correct. All the D-STAR rigs on the market have both digital
voice and analog voice modes including the ID-1. Only the ID-1 adds the
digital data mode to DV and FM voice.

No reason someone with a USRP could not roll their own DD mode radio.
And you can buy the GMSK chips and homebrew the DD mode on other bands
if you want just staying in your technical limits on each band.

Re: 1.2ghz DV For D-Star

You could add one of the many AMBE-2020 based DV addon projects to your existing 1.2GHz FM rig.

I use the Satoshi one which is not without it's significant problems but it works well for simplex contacts.

I think I understand your question as being "is there a 23cm D-STAR radio without the 128k Digital Data (DD) capability, but with the Digital Voice (DV) capability?" DV also carries data, at 1200 bps, so there is no "voice only" in D-STAR.

As was mentioned, the IC-9100 will have 23-cm DV capability when released. I am not aware of any other 23cm DV-only production radios. However, one could get there by using a homebrew GMSK modem and an AMBE device such as the DV-Dongle. There are PCBs/Kits for such things as well as Jonathan Naylor's soundcard GMSK modem. Are these appealing to you? (BTW, Friendcom supposedly is going to do some 23cm RF decks that would attach to either of these solutions.

OT: Ubiquity Bullet2

Hi All,

I've just acquired a pair of these for another project (networking our local scout camp) and whilst they work well above advertised I have one minor problem with them.

How do I prevent access to the GUI over the wireless interface? Most AP's have a check box for this. I've been therough the AirOS wiki anf cannot find it anywhere. Disabling the WLAN interface doesn;t do quite what it advertises.

Ideas anyone?

Mark

Re: 1.2ghz DV For D-Star

John,

I think all the D-Star rigs do both DV, DD and analog voice. I don't think there is a DV/DD D-Star rig on the market except for the ID-1 controller that does not do analog voice also.

There are analog rigs for 1.2GHz, but as Mark said the only D-Star repeater controller is the ICOM ID-1. There are many analog controllers out there. I guess I am a little confused as to exactly what you are looking for...analog or D-Star or some other digital mode controller.

Some of us have modified repeaters to simply pass the D-Star data stream. However, the ID-1 has the interface to the internet and Gateway. The Gateway is a big advantage to have so yes you have to go to ICOM for their controller and it works ONLY with their D-Star repeaters. So you could not take a much better repeater like the Motorola MSR2000 and use with the ID-1. It does not have the typical ptt, cos, rx and tx audio i/o that most analog repeater controllers have. It is totally digital with commands from/to the repeater radios that are made to work with this data.

John - Currently the ID-1 is the only radio that does D-STAR Digital Voice on 23cm. However, Icom has recently announced a IC-9100 HF/VHF/UHF Multi-Mode Transceiver that will have optional D-STAR & 1.2 GHz boards available. Although pricing hasn't been announced it should be significantly more expensive than an ID-1 which is a mono-band 23cm FM/D-STAR radio. I've attached an IC-9100 Pre-Release Product Information document. Of course, there are several D-STAR Digital Voice only mobiles & HTs made for 2m & 70cm. 73, Mark, WB9QZB

Re: 1.2ghz DV For D-Star

If you have any 1,2 GHZ radio or multiband Radio you can use the DV adapter, with with the UT118 chip,100% Icom legal.
And you have a choice to talk the new IC 9100 if out, later ,also.
pictures here
there is a video when I build the DV Adapter and how it works !
We can make one for you or you want the fun,we make complet kits ready,SMD parts already solderd.
The box comes back in next week, the chip with the menue we have in english
TS 2000 and the adapter is a replacement for IC 9100 160m to 1,2 GHZ? google it!

Congratulations to the Georgia group. In MN, we are moving in this direction with a coalition of served agencies on our own, without the support of ARES Leadership, who have been been very open about their dislike of D-Star.

Moderator's Note: I believe a group in Arizona streams activity on their D-STAR repeater onto the internet.

Not having any d-star capable equipment myself, is there any way that you can listen in on the internet? I'm actually wondering if there are any d-star repeaters that have audio going out on the net that can be listened to.
