Re: ID-1 and Windows 7

No, nothing unusual occurred when loading the program onto the computer. The software seemed to install normally. The ID-1 icon shows up on the desk top and looks normal when opened, but none of the ports will connect with the radio. The radio was on when I tried this.

Hi all:

I recently had to buy a new computer for my shack due to the failure of a Windows XP machine. I have been running my ID-1 through the computer because operation is so much easier in D-Star mode than using the control face. The new computer is a Windows 7 machine and I have been unable to get the Icom ID-1 software to work with it. Has anyone on the reflector also experienced this? The program comes up on the computer, but no matter what port number I try, and I tried all 256 of them, the radio simply will not respond. I'm guessing that Icom will have to come up with a new disc for W7.

I have sent an email to the Icom Technical Support people and am awaiting a reply.

Doesn't Windows7 have XP virtual support? Can't you run the Icom software on a XP VM ?

The half-duplex nature of the DD mode is not going to be friendly to any VOIP connection.

You should be getting much higher upload and download speeds though. ?

?

It’s very possible that you might be having signal strength issues.

Hi all,
Using an ID-1 and DD repeater ON0WV as a connection to internet.
Testing this connection with a DV dongle all incomming 'signals' work just fine. When I push the PTT (software on the DV Dongle)I don't seem to have enough bandwidth to get an good audiosignal over the local DV repeater via teh DD repeater as a connection to the gateway. So my question is: what up & dowload speed to you get ? I get 5,6 k max ! up an down 21k (max!). Not enough to use a DV dongle properly for 'uplink'.
I'm testing this to use a homemade hotspot on a hill where's no internet aviable. Anyone did some tests on this ?!

Moderator Note: The RF Folders in the Files & Links sections of the group has information about WA5VJB designs as well as many other 23cm antennas.

WA5JVB log periodic feeds made on PCB material are readily available on eBay and the like.

Google would be a good place to search, there was lots of interest on using surplus dishes when AO-40 was working so that would be a good term to include in the search.

Mark,

I don't know the answer, but let us know if you find it. When I have
looked at the product line, I've thought that perhaps the Rocket model
would be better for a link, since it does full duplex.

BTW, does anyone have a good feed design to use surplus DishNetwork
dishes at 2.4 ghz. and know what the gain might be?
