Photo: Model Icing Platform Scene (HO Scale)

This photo by John Parrish of Upland won First Prize in the model photo contest at the PSR Convention this past weekend.

The reefers are InterMountain and Athearn. They were weathered using pastels and paint by brush and airbrush.

The ice loading dock, ice making plant and other details were scratch built with wood and Evergreen styrene. Figures are from Walthers.

Palm tree branches were made using the narrow, dried branches of a Sugi Japanese Cedar tree, airbrushed and then attached to the palm trunks using hot glue.? Other scenery

was made using natural materials.

The one-foot high backdrop photo was taken by John out by Santa Paula, California.

The scene is part of a four-foot wide by two-foot deep modular layout section.

John placed the board and backdrop outside in natural sunlight to approximate the same time of day and shadows shown in the backdrop photo.

Model Railroader featured a larger section of this modular display scene in the "Trackside Photo" section of the October 2021 issue, Pages 64 and 65.
