Starla had been slowly getting to Hanami that day, despite the basket of fresh baked bread, dried herbs and flowers that she carried. As was her habit, Starla had a short conversation with everyone she came across, checking in on them and their family with the sort of gentle warmth that made most people comfortable sharing. Of course, keeping her fingers on the pulse of the community was how Starla felt connected to everyone in Brea, without having a family unit of her own.?

In Hanami, Starla indicated that she was scheduled to meet with Ella. Starla wanted tea in the company of a cat, and she was considering allowing a cat into her home. Starla wanted company, but not the sort of company that?needed? her all the time, like a dog would. A cat would be happy to share her space without always needing to be?in it. Ella would be the best person to help Starla figure out which cat, if any, would become Starla's companion.?

As the time for her appointment neared Ella made her final checks on the cats; checking they were in a relaxed and happy mood and that she had a tin full of treats and toys at the ready. Satisfied with the selection of cats and their mood she left the room and walked through Hanami to greet Starla.

Upon spying her she smiled a welcoming and fond smile,

“Welcome to Hanami, Starla, it is good to see you here.” Ella approached her hands clasped and held loosely in front of her, “Have you a chance to peruse the menu? We have a fine tea selection, all brewed from plants found in the gardens here and I believe there are freshly baked scones and lavender infused cakes available today.” She gestured for Starla to follow her through to the tea bar and as they walked she set out the agenda for Starla’s approval.

“Before I take you up, I would like some time to discuss what you are looking for and what I can do to help facilitate that. Once the tea is made and we have talked I will take you up into the imaginatively named cat room. Is that agreeable?”

Ella smiled happily at Starla; they had interacted before, as had everyone in Brea, they had just not spoken on a more personal level. Ella was pleased that Starla seemed on a similar way of thinking as Ella herself when it came to cats and companionship.

“Black tea and lavender cake sounds delicious, I might join you.” She ordered the teas and cakes from the staff there before turning her attention to the herbs and flowers Starla was presenting with interest, “My thanks!” She took them off the other woman to have a closer inspection, “Such a lovely variety! These are all from your own garden? Rosalind will be most pleased.”

With the teas and cakes already Ella led them into the cat room, carrying their treats carefully on a tray. “I have several cats in the room with me today. They are a variety of ages from a year to eight years old, they are all friendly and like humans, and all have their own personalities.”

She carefully bumped the door open striding purposefully into the room and setting the tray down onto a small table. The room was a medium sized room with lots of light and full of places for the cats to laze around, chase each other, and generally be cats. There were two well stuffed comfy high back chairs with a small table between them. Ella had placed the tray of treats on the table.

“Please make yourself comfortable.”
