NE1RD running CabConverter on Big Sur
Colleagues,
I got a new MacBook Air running 11.2.3 (Big Sur) and was able to run CabConverter normally. But, I had to do the following: 1. Downloaded the CabConverter.tar file from the Files area and expanded it. 2. Downloaded the CabConverter.jar file from the Files area and overwrote the same file from step 1. 3. I double clicked on the CabConverter.jar -- and it refused to open, of course. 4. I had to go through the Security & Privacy thing where I said it was OK to run this program (open anyway...) 5. When CabConverter.jar did open, it behaved normally (much to my surprise). After I copied the CCContents folder all the contests appeared. 6. I was able to convert a fellow user's ADIF file without incident. This is on a MacBook Air M1 machine running Big Sur. I did go to the Java.com site and install the latest supported Java, agreed to all their terms (gave up my first born and all my forests and lands), and installed the Java normally. Maybe that is the secret to getting things working correctly again. The Java installed was Java(TM) SE Runtime Environment (build 1.8.0_281-b09) Java HotSpot(TM) 64-Bit Server VM (build 25.281-b09, mixed mode) |
