Kellyware
I am a very recent addition to this forum (Today).? I am posting because I just discovered that Kellyware is no longer exists.? Does anyone know when he shut it down and why?? I have been using it for close to 20 years and in a panic.? I am using his Max32 USB control board and have had really good results.? Any suggestions on a replacement software?? I liked KCam because it was very affordable.? Been retired for 20 years and would hate to give up my CNC hobby!
Thanks, Fred |

There are many and I mean many Youtube tutorials for what ever level you might want to do.?? CAD with Built in CAM,? 2D, 2-1/2D and 3D.????? You might start out looking? at lessons from?? Hi Dan, Thanks for the quick response.? I liked KCam because I could import dxf files from AutoCad and it would generate and run the g-code to my CNC.? I guess I don't have to panic quite yet--just when I run into a problem with KCam.? In the mean time I will be looking into what else is available.? I had not run across Fusion 360 but will certainly check it out. Thanks again for the response! Fred

It looks like KCAM from kellyware was a CNC motion control system, similar in function to LinuxCNC, Mach3, etc. Jon |

开云体育FredFusion 360 is by Autodesk, same people as Autocad.? You can import your old DXF files, or Mesh files? or SVG files if you like.??? Once you see how this works, you won't need Autocad , do your CAD in Fusion 360 , switch to Manufacture and generate your Gcode. Start here maybe you will see what you have been missing. :-)???? Lars? is a great teacher, works for Autodesk , many videos.?? This is Beginners #1 Dan On 4/20/2020 8:21 AM, Fred Mueller

Hi Brian, Thanks for the quick response.? I have calmed down enough to realize that I don't really have a problem unless either my Kellyware software or USB Driver board die.? In the mean time I will be looking at the various alternatives. Thanks again, Fred

开云体育FredI assumed and you know how that goes... :-)???? I thought KCam was Cam software but I see it is the Controller Software.?? I guess you can run it until it breaks.?? Today for Hobbiests you have? Mach3or 4? for Windows Users? and not free, well they have a free test version of which last I looked would run 150 lines of code.???? Mach3? full version can be had at around $ 200.00.????? Mach3 has a huge following easy to get help if you need it. ? ? Next on? the Free side is Linuxcnc for Linux users, this is what I use.??? Fantastic piece of software, but it was rather difficult to get setup if you don't? know Linux of which? I didn't.???? Good news is, once you get it setup and running it just works and works very well.???? I don't know about your controller board,? LinuxCNC? knows many controllers and can be taught if yours is not listed.??? I see someone else posted you might be able to use an Arduino? board.? Another learning curve but there's lots of help out there. Dan On 4/20/2020 12:36 PM, Dan Field wrote:

Fred, Depends on what you are doing. I have 360, but for quick & easy I still use my trusty Sheetcam.? I do my drawings, plan the operations and put each on a separate layer, then import the DXF into Sheetcam. And files live on your computer, not in the cloud. Also, it has the ability to edit a post processor to customize it. ? Steve

FredOne warning for Autocad.? They have a history of giving free licenses for non-commercial use, then upgrading to a commercial program with an annual license fee.? If you don't pay, your old files cannot be accessed.? They have done this a number of times.? So, that's why I won't use them. I have some old legacy CAD programs, some that I paid serious money for, but at least the license is perpetual. Jon |

Hi Jon, I bought a copy of AutoCad Mechanical in 2000 and have used it for the last 20 years so I don't see any advantage to switching to Fusion 360.? Kellyware provided a CNC interface that provided the signal to the stepper drives through a USB connector.? It was (is) a pretty good piece of software so I am sorry to see it bite the dust. Fred??
