I am looking around for info related to SPC and how to build a remote display. I haven't found much yet. Does anyone have pictures, plans, links, or ideas on how to do this?
Thanks, Jamie

When you say digimatic do you mean the Mitutoyo scales or the cheap imported ones?

Ok, I put a file in the files section that should help anyone who wants to use the SPC port on the imported digital calipers and scales.
The file is called "Caliper_stuff.zip" under "Imported_Caliper_Info".
If anyone has any other questions about interfacing to these units I would be happy to help.
Have fun!

Hey all, The caliper_stuff schematic has a diode backward going from the input of the comparator to ground. The cathode should be pointing to ground. This is an older schematic I did awhile back. Also some versions of that code used serial output to the PC and others parallel. It was a case of 'I found out enough to get the job done, than went on to other stuff'. If I can answer any questions, let me know. -Lee --- In CAD_CAM_EDM_DRO@y..., Chris Baugher <cbaugher_yahoo@b...> wrote: Ok, I put a file in the files section that should help anyone who

Wow, that is some good info, thanks. I have read that the import scales, such as those from JTS, use a completely different SPC format than the Mitutoyo scales. Is that true? Hi, Yes, digimatic and 'SPC' are different specs, SPC is often proprietary and not well defined for the customer. I used a digital storage scope and examined the outputs at 1.00" and 0.00" to figure out the generic SPC format used in the cheaper calipers I've found on Ebay. You could use a micro to translate between the two specs. The files section has info on digimatic also and some PIC code: Hope this helps and have fun, Lee --- In CAD_CAM_EDM_DRO@y..., "emotorwerks" <emotorwerks@y...> wrote: Wow, that is some good info, thanks. Has anyone built a purpose-made box for displaying the output from this type of caliper? I'd like to avoid using a computer if possible.

WTTool makes a 3 axis one for $250. I'm working on a design for a 2/4 axis display but it's kinda stalled right now. I'm trying to find a source for off the shelf membrane keypads.

Would you happen to have wiring diagrams that could use regular momentary switches rather than membrane keypads?

Hi! From what I know, it shouldn't be any difference in wiring of momentary swiches compare to the membrane. In fact you can make membrane out of momentary by soldering momentary switches into the rigid PC board , putting spacer and glueing an overlay on top - you get membrane switch. Regards, Alex

Not at all. Membrane switches ARE momentary. The reason I wanted to use membrane switches is that I figured they would be more oil and chip resistant. In fact you can make membrane out of momentary by soldering momentary switches into the rigid PC board, putting spacer and glueing an overlay on top - you get membrane switch. The idea of of making my own did occur to me but I didn't think about it all that much. Now that you mention it you could use some of the wide flat PCB mount "tact" switches and just stick some kind of plastic membrane over the top. Hmm, yeah, I think this could work! C|

On Fri, 1 Nov 2002, John A. McFadden wrote: Would you happen to have wiring diagrams that could use regular momentary switches rather than membrane keypads? Umm, well sort of. I have a partial schematic but it's not complete. I'm using an Atmel ATMega8 MCU to decode the data stream and display the numbers on an LCD. The type of switches doesn't really matter as long as they are momentary. Also the code isn't complete either. When I get this thing closer to completion I'm planning on putting it all up on the web. Hopefully that won't be too long from now but it's hard to say. C|
