Thanks for the phone#. I have more info now. I just tried a
Parallel-port diagnostic and information utility from Parallel Technologies and in windows, it found a port at 378H. Unloaded windows and ran the utility again and it found no port installed. Randy Gordon-Gilmore
The smallest Moglice package was more than plenty to do my Sherline mill
and lathe. However, due to the way I had my axes fixtured I was only able to do the 3 axes of the mill and the carriage of the lathe. I could not do the cross-slide of the lathe in the same batch (the opening would have been sideways) so I will need to buy a second batch. It should be way sufficient for a homemade mill or gantry. If doing it again, I would ignore Moglice's dire warning against subdividing the epoxy. If you're careful (and have a decent gram scale) you should be able to divide it into 2 or 3 smaller batches. It is mixed by weight. I ended up with 2/3 the Moglice solidified in the container... I have not had the chance to run the mill much since I did the Moglice retrofit (patio roof building is probably off-topic for the list so I won't mention that) but initially the backlash is much lower than the stock brass nuts. I do have more backlash in the X axis (.003" or so) because I ran the leadscrew all the way out when I cleaned it, and it almost felt like cross-threading when I put it back in (even though I had chamfered and extra-polished the end of the leadscrew beforehand). Since the release spray is just wax in a solvent carrier, I would advise against removing the leadscrew from the Moglice, but rather just clean it in place. Other people's results may vary, but remember the Sherlines use an itty bitty 1/4-20 allthread leadscrew (except for the Z axis...) This brings me to the boot menu where I can choose safe mode, dos prompt only, etc. I bypass all windows drivers here and still no parallel port. The dos sofware runs normally, but no pulses at the port. Very strange. Cable, connectors, no EDM or DRO content at all
Randy Gordon-Gilmore
Mendelson Electronics () currently has a wide selection
of Belden Infinity high-flex-life cable at a very good price. They have 16, 18, and 20 gage. (The 20 gage is perfect for Sherline conversions that use 2A controllers. You can use DB9 solder-cup connectors with it.) This is the older 7000-series cable, rated at 4 million flexes. So I lied about the "no CNC content"... :-) Best regards, Randy (who does photoetching, which is totally CAD-related. Photoetching artwork requires "tool width" compensation based on the material thickness just like G-code does for cutter diameter in order to obtain accurately-sized parts. I do all my artwork in VersaCAD and hand-edit the Postscript output for the aforementioned edge effect compensation.) Here is something you may want to try.
Look for a File named MSDOS.SYS on the root of your bootdrive it is a hidden file so you have to enable show hidden files in explorer. Change the properties of this file by removing the readonly checkmark. Then edit the file in notepad, look for a line that reads BootGUI=1 , change this to BootGUI=0 then save the file. Now change all attributes back to the way they where before. The result will be when you reboot the computer it will stop at the >C:\ prompt without loading Windows. This allows you to run your programs in a true dos environment. when your done just enter win to load windows as usual. Good Luck. --- In CAD_CAM_EDM_DRO@y..., "j.guenther" <j.guenther@v...> wrote: can you print from dos?
