Re: Yahoo groups is shutting down, should we save the content? - lets do it

I've created a Web archive of the group messages, files, photos and links:

???

It's kind of fun poking around in the old discussions.?? Lots of good info.? Thanks to everyone for all the contributions.? See you on the groups.io site.

Enjoy,

Joseph

Re: Yahoo groups is shutting down, should we save the content? - lets do it

Just now I have been given the privileges needed to transfer the group to 开云体育.

The process has been kicked off, and hopefully there is enough time for it to happen.

Because of name restrictions (no underscore allowed in names) the new group will be here:

The transfer may take a couple of weeks based on current backlog.

You do not need to subscribe to the new group, that should happen automatically and your welcome email will provide an option to not be subscribed if you are no longer interested.

Meanwhile subscription requests and attempts to post will be moderated and delayed until the group is loaded onto 开云体育 servers.

Thanks to all who helped me get the access needed.

Regards,
Steve Stallings

Hi Bill,
?
You are still an owner for the group on Yahoo.
?
The first step would be trying to log into with the user name:? wcanliker
?
Don't be surprised if Yahoo seems to hang and leaves you with a blank page. Their servers are overloaded due to the pending shutdown. Just try refreshing the page and if necessary, try again.
?
Then, if you can remember your password, enter that when requested.
?
If you do not remember your password, the sign-in page will have a link for "I forgot my password" directly under the place where you typed in your user name.
?
If you had given Yahoo a cell phone number, it will ask if you can access that cell phone number. If you answer?YES, it will send you a?verification number via a text message.
?
You then put that number into the web page that comes up after you answered?YES.
?
If you answer?NO or you have never given Yahoo a cell phone number, it will send?the verification number?to you via email using the same email address?as you normally use. I cannot confirm that because they have my cell number and I have not seen the alternate email method in action.
?
You will probably now be asked to provide other information to assist in the case of future verification efforts. Hopefully you can opt out of those unless you want to provide it.
?
Once you get signed into Yahoo groups, go to the CAD_CAM_EDM_DRO page. Near the top right of the page there will be a link for "Management" with a down arrow next to it.
?
Click on the down arrow and select "Manage Members".
?
On the resulting page listing the members, there will be a "Search Members" box near the top right of the page.
?
Enter "morerust" without the quotes into the search box and click on the magnifying glass to start the search.
?
It should find Steve Stallings as morerust. Click on the name "morerust" in the list shown. This will pop up an Edit Member dialog box.
?
In the box beside the entry for Role, click on the down arrow and select Owner, and then click on?SAVE at the bottom of the dialog box. Clicking on SAVE is required for this to work.
?
This will change my status to co-owner. You will also remain as the owner.
?
Thanks,
Steve Stallings

On 28 October this group will no longer accept new posts, and in December the content will go away.

I have arranged to help move the Mach1Mach2CNC group to the service on the 开云体育 platform.

Does anyone know who is the owner of this group and should we try to move the content?

I realize this group has been very quite lately, but it would be a shame for all the valuable information stored in its history to disappear from the web.

very well said Wanliker, there is a lot of good info in this group messages , to allow it to be lost, hope that someone will step to it and make it available..

CCED Move

I was the original List Mom, and started this group after a trip to NAMES.
Somewhere along the way I got dropped from the CCED group, as either
the owner(List Mom) or as a moderator..
I would suggest that the early information be retained somewhere, I feel
that even if it is old that there is a lot of useful information contained therein.
I do not have the skills to try to help move the content, but I hope that
someone steps forward to do so.
I am now 84 years old, and no longer active in the group, or the shop.

I've created a dump of this group using the JSON API which you can find here:

Hopefully everyone wont try to download this at once.? It's 188MiB compressed.

New in Box, outer carton has been opened, but inside boxes and packing is all still in place. Sherline Mill 5400 CNC ready. Is about a 5 year old version, but has stored in climate controlled indoors and not unpackaged.

Range of accessories also new in box available with the mill. I believe it is the accessory pack that is optional with the mill.

Any suggestions appreciated,

Re: Looking for software for Acumtion 4-axis driver

AcuMotion made the MyTMill systems. The early ones were
phase drive from the parallel port, and I do not know what the
signal pin assignments were.

The newer step and directions versions used this pinout:

Axis?? Step?? Direction
? X?????? 2???????? 3
? Y????? 4???????? 5
? Z????? 6???????? 7

The older drivers were unipolar for 6 wire motors. They were half
step drivers which results in 8000 steps per inch. Later systems
offered bipolar drives but I do not know their specifications.

The MyTmill systems were delivered with their own software, but
should run just fine with LinuxCNC or Mach software driving the
parallel port.

Doesn't this just use software-generated step/direction?? I think that Sherline was using a version of EMC by 2003.? EMC has become LinuxCNC, and MANY improvements have been added.? If the "controller" is in fact just expecting step/direction through the parallel port, then you should be able to load LinuxCNC onto a modern PC with a parallel port, and pick the configuration from the list.? Most PCs today do NOT have built-in parports, so you just get a PCIe plug-in card for it.

See linuxcnc.org to download linuxcnc.

Re: 22" travel single axis suggestions

I agree with Dennis, we use profile rail ( THK, HiWinn, Nook, Bosch etc.) all the time on the special machines we produce. And they are the best option. You can get non-bearing type too depending on your application.

I am just chiming in, because your tolerances are very tight and I am not sure these rails will get you there. Mcmaster is a great company, if you email them they answer quickly. I would ask what the tolerance per ft. is with these. If you can loosen your tolerance or if they meet your requirements they are def. the way to go,

Also if you contact a profile rail distributor, they can spec something out for you - ie. a higher preload blocks for tighter tolerances you can buy. These can be really stiff to move.. (depending).
?Sometimes if we are using profile rail for only material handling we order the blocks with a lower tolerance (or we replace with slightly smaller balls) because we do not need the accuracy and /or are mounting to an imperfect surface over many feet.

Just my $.02 but you should be able to find something? for your application in your price range.

Tim, take a look at McMaster Carr part numbers 6250K32, and 6250K34 on their website mcmastercarr.com. These two items are within your $500 budget. The rail can be mounted to something solid, and shimed to be true to your specifications. There are many other sizes and options to choose from.. One of the larger rails may even work unsupported throughout except at each end.

Define ‘expensive’, especially in the context of no deviation.

Supported rail is pretty cheap these days:

Bolting a couple of those to something reasonably stiff might work.

Considering creating a special application machine that would require a single axis with 22" of travel. It will not have to carry more than 10 lbs, but needs to have less than .0005" or better .00025" deviation under the spindle through out the entire travel.

Not worried about how to drive it mechanically or electronically. Just looking for ideas on the least expensive way to build physical parts of the stage.

Ideas?

Thanks,
