Elephants and Silence? [Mostly photos]

Hi Rus and all

?

I might have it on an old computer disk somewhere but I don’t think I’d be able to access it - if I could find it. I do have a ‘toy’ that claims to read old disks but I’ve never tried to actually use it.? I have lots of old personal photos that I’d like to see again sometime too!? I have proper film photos taken before the late nineties that are still fine.? My digital ones are spread over all types of devices and formats and I no longer have much idea of how to retrieve them.? Any thoughts Rus or anyone?

Yeah, I lost/misplaced all of my old stuff from our old site and Yahoo has already deleted it all.

Can we add a very small picture of the elephants to the emails?
Where are the elephants going?? Are they looking for pasture or water or migrating?? They all seem to be heading in roughly the same direction.
Did you lose the garden photo?

Hey Sylvia,

I'm in the same boat you are.? I imagine I may have some photos on memory sticks or old Pcs.? Just have to dig them up.

Hi again Rus

?

Over the years I had quite a few digital cameras and they all stored photos in different formats before SD cards became standard.? So I have various peculiar disks, sticks, thumb drives, phone cards and who knows what.? It’s hopeless.? I might as well bin the lot and start again in a more organised fashion but it means I lose 20+ years of photos.

Io groups should not be used to store important files. Unless the owner of the group pays $2000 per year per group files are only stored for a short time. Also it is unwise to rely on any public repository. They can all be closed down as the management decide, even if they have taken money for it.

I recall some years ago a travel writer using Google Notes to store masses of notes about her articles. Then they decided to end the service, and there was no easy way just so save the files on a computer. The only way she could recover them was to copy and paste each section of text into Wordpad on a Netbook computer and save each resulting file. It took her several days.

Portable USB hard disks or indeed high capacity USB sticks are relatively cheap now. Store your valuable files on one or three of these now. If one fails, you have the others.
