Autofucus with C14 Edge OTA?

Is anyone using an autofocus motor with the C14 Edge HD?? I would be interested in your experiences.

I've been using the Optec Fast Focus secondary focuser for about a year now.? I use it with FocusMax and it works great.? It also uses zero back focus.? The only drawback is that the wires for power pass in front of the primary.? This causes some diffraction spikes.

Clear skies,
Dale.

Using a wire guide in the form of a semi circle (intersecting the secondary) will get rid of the diffraction artifacts.

"Optec Fast Focus secondary focuser"

Near as I can tell this is no longer sold or supported, which is really too bad.

Does anyone have different info? (i.e. a retailer?)

BTW, curving the wires will avoid an obvious diffraction "spike" but actually throws more light into a diffuse diffraction haze.? But probably most people prefer that nearly undetectable haze to an obvious?single spike. Although there are surprising number of refractor users who paste artificial spikes onto their images to make X-mass stars, so you could add another wire to make a complete cross... <g>

The cable used with the fast focus is CAT5 (I.e. Ethernet).? I split it into the four twisted pairs, so the spikes look like what you would get from a typical secondary, namely four spikes.?

I hadn't heard that it had been discontinued, I would check with Jeff at Optec.

Clear skies,
Dale.

It's a small difference but it is only necessary to use two wires, perpendicular, to get a cross diffraction.

Hi Dale and Stan,
The FastFocus is available from stock for the C-11 and C-14 Celeston OTAs including the EdgeHD. ?As long as the OTA is Fastar compatible the mounting collar will fit. ?Starlizona even sells a retro-fit mirror holder for the older, original non-Fastar OTA's that we have tested successfully with the FastFocus. ?
As Dale mentions the cable for the FastFocus is a standard Cat-5e cable. ?If you prefer a four-wire obstruction rather than the single flat cable supplied with the system, you can strip back the outer sheathing, split the four twisted pairs to resemble a Newtonian spider and you'll end up with the more traditional diffraction pattern for the brighter stars. ?There is a photo of our wiring harness here: ?
We sell these mostly through OEM accounts currently. ?If you are interested, please contact me privately.?
Clear skies! ??
