Mars - 12-10-20
开云体育Thanks Ken! I use a C14 with a ZWO ASI290M camera. I also have attached to the camera a 1.25X Vernonscope, which gives me an F ratio of f/16.8. ? From: [email protected] <[email protected]> On Behalf Of Ken via groups.io

Hey Guys and Gals....
I never thought to ask the question here but in seeing this response regarding camera usage, ill ask now...
At our club AOSNY (www.aosny.org) we utilize a C14 and I am going to be outfitting the scope for EAA for continued public viewing....
What seems to be the consensus regarding the proper ZWO (or Equal) camera for Planetary views or otherwise?
And what components seem to be working out....
This last email notes the use of a "vernonscope", a term that I have not heard of before...
any help would be greatly appreciated.

开云体育Jason, ? I believe I purchased it through OPT. It is a small Barlow type lens that screws directly into the camera to give me what I have found to be a desirable f/16.8 f ratio given the small pixels on the ASI290M camera that I use. ? 开云体育Vernonscope is a brand name sold by Don Yeir of NY. It is actually a Barlow lens. If memory serves me correct it was 1.6X ? From: [email protected] <[email protected]> On Behalf Of Jason Cousins

开云体育No, in my case it is a 1.25x power Barlow. At least I believe it is. I will check next time I am out there to be sure though. On Dec 30, 2020, at 10:42 AM, Neal Kleinman <nkleinma@...> wrote:

开云体育I see that model on the website, something newer than I am aware of. I know Don sold the product line a few years ago. I have two of their Barlow’s ? Makes sense if you just want to boost magnification a little a 1.25X. ? Oh and I am the one that recalled my last message. Sorry about that! ? And dont believe focal lengths :) I had an interesting experience tonight with a CPC925GPS (plus Celestron f6.3 reducer corrector) while looking at Jupiter-Saturn 1degree apart With 32mm I could not fit the 2 planets in the same field when i put the eyepiece into the visual back. But then I popped in the star diagonal and viola, the two fitted into the fov with a bit of room to spare In hindsight i should have let one of them drift thru the field of view and calculate the exact size of the field but this confirms what a lot of you probably know which is that SCTs vary the focal length when you refocus so it depends on where you put the focal plane relative to the rear cell. From my experience tonight i wouldnt be surprised if the FL changed by 10%! but dont quote me on that cos I didnt do the math? David
