CCD adapter for 9.25 Edge?

Hi all. Is the Celestron 93646 the T adapter that I need to attach my CCD (QSI 540 WSG) to my new 9.25 Edge? And does it allow camera rotation? Are there better options? And if I wanted to try to use a focal reducer with it (APCCD67). Thanks for any advice.

Re: Looking for an off axis guider recommendation

You might want to consider the ONAG XT On-Axis Guider.? I use one on my old C8, and it works very well.

Re: Looking for an off axis guider recommendation

I tried using an OAG with my C14 EdgeHD and found it impossible to calibrate and use my autoguider (Loadstar and PHD).? This had to do with marginal seeing causing way too much drift during calibration. Long focal length autoguiding is not for the faint of heart.? Some people have success with this configuration but I've chosen to use a 1000mm fl guidescope and have had great success with it.

9.25" Deluxe Changing Standard Focusing Knobs

Hi, I recently changed my standard SCT focussing knob and replaced it with the FT microfocuser, I followed the instruction to the letter, and clockwise the knob anti it reached the end and than changed it to the FT. Given that i have to removed the main 2.5" focuser to connect from the tube rear flange the focusing train (for astrophotography), first i did a viewing test with my eyepiece to see if i could bring to focus the North star, using now the new FT focuser i turn it numbeour time anti-clockwise but fail to focus the star, after trying a few time but never reach a 'stop'(an end)?turning the knob I decided to give it a rest.

So, my question would be, does this focuser knob needs so many times to bring an image to focus, and do I need to un-tight the mirror lock knobs before focusing??? These two questions might be silly but i don't want to mass anything up at this stage.

Dan,

That is an ultra-impressive Jupiter image for sure.? Congrats.? What "color cam" are you using? What is your capture software??

Thanks.

Re: Filter wheel advice?

ZWO makes a manual filter wheel did you see if that would work?

Filter wheel advice?

I have acquired a C14 Edge HD that I intend to use for Jupiter observing mostly.

I am wondering if there might be a recommended manual 1.25" filter wheel that would work efficiently with this particular telescope? I will be using a ZWO ASI120 camera. Possibly using Astronomik or Baader or Astrodon filters.

I have been looking for filter wheel reviews on the internet but have not come across any good critical comparisons so thought I would ask here.

Also, are there any certain filter wheels I should avoid?

Thank you in advance for any replies.

Re: Jupiter October 10, 2014 from DEC - EDGE C11

one of the best C-11 images of Jupiter that I've seen.

I think it has passed the test!

Re: October 10, 2014

nice!

C-14 should be renamed "the Jupiter Scope" as it seems to surpass all other amateur scopes for that planet.

Re: New C14 Edge - mystery screw or knob ??

Thomas,
That is one of the two Safety stop screws for your OTA Orange Aluminum mounting bracket.?
I have one extra and not using it at rear end of OTA.
Cheers...

I would suggest using it at the end of the orange rail to prevent the scope from accidentally sliding off when pointed at the zenith. Worked on mr CGE PRO ?Lou?

Solar spots with the C14 on Sept 7

Dear All,

Please find some images of the big solar spots visible on September 7, taken with good seeing conditions with the Celestron 14 :

It can be noted that the umbrae of the spots are not completely black, some bright spots (named umbral dots) are visible :

Re: Looking for an off axis guider recommendation

I don't really have a specific brand recommendation but here are some issue that I've encountered or am aware of:

An OAG will?add to?the back-focus distance and?the effect of that?depends on the scope (Edge-HD or Classical?), external optics (reducer?), filter wheel, etc.??In particular, a?reduced Edge-HD is very particular about that distance and it may be difficult/detrimental to insert another gadget into the imaging train.

Also, the mechanics of an OAG can range from simple to sophisticated, particularly the ability and ease of camera rotation and pick-off mirror distance and rotation. Also the focusing mechanism for the guide camera can range to virtually non-existent (simply slide the cam in/out) to fine-control.? And some OAG have integrated or compatible filter-wheels, etc. There are motorized OAG.? Obviously these issue dictate the cost.

Top-end OAG are heavy.?The C-14 is heavy enough that it probably won't be an issue. But it does potentially stress the mechanical imaging chain and?might induce flexure, which is not good.

It can be a real pain to locate guide stars and if you rotate the entire unit (incl camera) then you have to take new flats.? So it is important to pre-plan all imaging fields prior to imaging.?Use "The Sky" to?map your shots.

There are some reasons that DSLR does not?benefit much (or at all) from long sub-exps (e.g. even in a dark sky the sub-exp can become dark-current limited, similar to sky limited; also the uncontrolled temp can be problematic for long sub-exps).?If your mount alone (or with a modest external guider) can handle a?minute or so?then an OAG might not?make much of an improvement.
