Dear All,

Please find some lunar images taken on July 17 with the Celestron 14 and the IDS3370 camera :

The setting sun on Theophilius and Cyrillus :

The same region but a little bit toward to the North. You can seen the progression of the terminator :

Further to the North, Mare Tranquilitis, with very nice riles, for example Maskelyne rile to the left :

And Moretus :

More to come :-)

Re: It's time to send a message

Really. Great counterpoint.

Re: Autofucus with C14 Edge OTA?

Hi Dale and Stan,
The FastFocus is available from stock for the C-11 and C-14 Celeston OTAs including the EdgeHD. ?As long as the OTA is Fastar compatible the mounting collar will fit. ?Starlizona even sells a retro-fit mirror holder for the older, original non-Fastar OTA's that we have tested successfully with the FastFocus. ?
As Dale mentions the cable for the FastFocus is a standard Cat-5e cable. ?If you prefer a four-wire obstruction rather than the single flat cable supplied with the system, you can strip back the outer sheathing, split the four twisted pairs to resemble a Newtonian spider and you'll end up with the more traditional diffraction pattern for the brighter stars. ?There is a photo of our wiring harness here: ?
We sell these mostly through OEM accounts currently. ?If you are interested, please contact me privately.?
Clear skies! ??

Re: Autofucus with C14 Edge OTA?

It's a small difference but it is only necessary to use two wires, perpendicular, to get a cross diffraction.

Re: Autofucus with C14 Edge OTA?

The cable used with the fast focus is CAT5 (I.e. Ethernet).? I split it into the four twisted pairs, so the spikes look like what you would get from a typical secondary, namely four spikes.?

I hadn't heard that it had been discontinued, I would check with Jeff at Optec.

Clear skies,
Dale.

Re: Autofucus with C14 Edge OTA?

"Optec Fast Focus secondary focuser"

Near as I can tell this is no longer sold or supported, which is really too bad.

Does anyone have different info? (i.e. a retailer?)

BTW, curving the wires will avoid an obvious diffraction "spike" but actually throws more light into a diffuse diffraction haze.? But probably most people prefer that nearly undetectable haze to an obvious?single spike. Although there are surprising number of refractor users who paste artificial spikes onto their images to make X-mass stars, so you could add another wire to make a complete cross... <g>

CN is mostly an arms race. Its just like any retailer-run forum that revolves around talking about gear. 99.9% of CN posts are about gear, NOT about astronomy. That can be useful up to a certain point, but once you have gear you are happy with and want to take your skill set to the next level, what do you do? Where do you go? Who do you ask? CN members will only tell you what you SHOULD have bought or to spend more money on what THEY want to have.

CN also has way too much emphasis on competition. Who has the best gear, who spent the most money, who defends their brand or their choice of scope design... ad nauseum. The forums' most prolific posters are usually wannabe internet celebrities who feel they are THE authority on what IS. And when they are challenged by the voices of reason, well watch out!

I will tell you this. If SpacetravelerX EVER becomes a moderator I will raise holy hell on that site, publicly denounce the act and quit. ;)

Re: Autofucus with C14 Edge OTA?

Using a wire guide in the form of a semi circle (intersecting the secondary) will get rid of the diffraction artifacts.

Is anyone using an autofocus motor with the C14 Edge HD?? I would be interested in your experiences.

Hi Ed, thank you for your reply. Ill check these focusers out like you mentioned, they should do the job.

Re: Doc clays cleaning kit

?Hi Umair,

I've made and used Doc Clay's solution for cleaning correctors and it's effective. There is unnecessary fretting over cleaning correctors. They're just as hardy as camera lens coatings and should be cleaned with the same care, no more. One thing I noted is that Doc Clay's solution will still leave some streakiness. This affects the images in no way but if you want a spotless corrector, take a lens wipe only *DAMPENED* in ?acetone and wipe away the streaks, taking care not to touch any painted parts.

Doc Clay's solution is awesome for eyeglasses and flat screen tvs as well. I use it for cleaning both.
