Download time is virtually instantaneous because the detector and electronics are designed for use as a video cam; an exposure is started while the previous one is being written so efficiency is near 100%.?
I've been doing high speed DS imaging for several years using ICCD and EMCCD and recently experimenting with CMOS.? It requires significant disk space to store 3-30 frames per second (my usual frame rates) over several hours -?a night can easily?consume 100 GB.?But a 1-2 TB USB3 external HD is inexpensive and versatile (I acquire with a laptop then process on a desktop).
At present the biggest hurdle for most people is probably?appropriate software.? I wrote my own and am considering making it commercially available.? Otherwise one must make due with planetary/lunar programs that are not really suitable though may be adequate.
