Two CPKC train derailments in B.C. in two days

Preliminary summaries of the two recent CPKC incidents in B.C.:

Mile 116.7 Mountain Sub (Feb 16, 23:07)

CPKC assignment 805-339 (CP 8910, CP 8775, CP 8014, CP 8776, CP 8802, CP 8148, 152L, 0E, 21013T, 8508FT) was proceeding Westward on the North Main track when it collided with the tail end of assignment 301-230 (CP 7013, CP 8955, CP 9705, 122L, 0E, 17287T, 7087FT), which was stationary, at mile 116.7 Mountain Sub.

As a result, units CP 8910, CP 8775 (caught fire), CP 8014 and CP 8776 on train 805 in addition to 3 loaded covered hopper cars on train 301 derailed. A fourth loaded covered hopper car on train 301 sustained damage.

No injuries to the crew of train 301. Both crew members of train 805 were taken to a local hospital, one with minor and one with serious injuries. No reported leaks.

Mile 8.2 Mountain Sub (Feb 17, 10:30)

CPKC assignment 101-14 (CP 9353, CP 8883, KCSM 4669, 55L, 1E, 8137T, 9503FT) was proceeding Westward on the siding when 14 loaded intermodal flat cars (26 platforms) derailed at mile 8.2 Mountain Sub. As a result, one top container on intermodal flat car DTTX 732213 made contact with 4 top containers on Westward assignment 105-13 that was stationary on the Main track. No reported derailment on train 105.

No injuries. Four unknown containers of dangerous goods on train 101 were involved.
