Hi
What is the "Enterprise"? Is this the new Montreal/Toronto overnight trains 50/51? I know there are always a few Chateau or Manor sleepers kicking around, but I thought Park cars were in great demand. With only 3 bedrooms and a drawing room, and nothing to see in this all-at-night train, would it be practical to tie up 2 (one each way) Park cars for the Montreal/Toronto overnight service? With VIA, though, who knows! Is it possible that REVELSTOKE PARK is one of the Park cars on its way to be used on VIA train #15 Ocean between Montreal & Halifax? In September ?99, the last time that I was in Halifax, they were using WATERTON PARK, BANFF PARK, YOHO PARK, and EVANGELINE PARK for these train sets, but ever since they closed the VIA Maintenance Center in Halifax, all work is done in Mimico, so maybe they?re switching equipment! From: "Andy McCullough" <mcculloughaa@...> (I'm cross posting this to bring this discussion over to Can-Pass-Rail, as it has virtually nothing to do with the CPR) Yes, the Enterprise is the Montreal/Toronto overnight train #50/51. I have heard people say that there's a shortage of Skylines, but a (small) abundance of Parks, but I'm just going from anecdotal memory here. Breakfast is offered in the Park car lounge or in your room, should you prefer. They can make coffee & stuff there in the Park's kitchenette. Isn't the Mimico Maintenance Mentre all but shut down too? Isn't most servicing done in Montreal? From: "Andy McCullough" <mcculloughaa@...> What is the "Enterprise"? Is this the new Montreal/Toronto overnighttrains 50/51?Yes. I thought Park cars were in great demand.VIA has no shortage of Park cars. They do have a shortage of operable Skyline cars and of Manor and Chateau cars. The shortage of Skyline cars has meant that dining room cars have on occasion had to be substituted for Skylines on the Chaleur, for instance. The shortage of sleeping cars has led VIA to lease several from Amtrak, likely for use on the Hudson Bay. On the Montreal-Toronto overnight trains, a Park car can serve not only as a sleeping car but also as a lounge and as a food-preparation and serving area for breakfast in the morning. Park cars have been regularly operated on the overnight train since it began in January. Is it possible that REVELSTOKE PARK is one of the Park cars on its way tobe used on VIA train #15 Ocean between Montreal & Halifax?I'd guess it unlikely, but it is possible that a Park car from the Canadian could be deadheaded on a daytime train from Toronto to Montreal for maintenance. VIA now has only three heavy maintenance centres, in Vancouver (for the Canadian and the Skeena), Winnipeg (for the Hudson Bay), and Montreal (for everything else). The maintenance centres in Toronto and Halifax have been closed except for servicing and minor maintenance. Pat Scrimgeour, Toronto, qqjct@... |
