Hi Elizabeth, What information on Sofie are you referring to? I did a quick search for any children of Karl and Anna Maria to see if there was any more information. Nothing. Then I logged on with my FHC Director's ID and the following came up (attached). Apparently the index of these data are restricted to LDS church members. If I attach these records they will be logged to Marilyn Liesmann (my FHC director). Do you want me to attach these records and do further searching? Hello Fred This is a very belated response to your most informative response to my enquiries over a year ago. My apologies, but going through my spam folder over the past couple of days – I’ve found it! Thank you so much for your advice and assistance. It is very much appreciated. As far as I know the family is Catholic and has been indefinitely. Unfortunately this and the family choice of religion makes my research more challenging as you state. However, I note that you have information on Sofie, which I do not have. Please could you provide me with more details e.g. an attachment and/or source. Any further assistance is much appreciated. Thank you. Kind regards Elizabeth

History of Birkenfeld, Baden-Durlach. 3
Hello, all :) My ancestors from Baden-Wurttemberg - the families of Hans WESSINGER (b. between 1601 and 1610)), Abraham WOLFINGER (b.1624) and Michael WENTZ (b.1597) - were from the town of Birkenfeld. Has anything been written about Birkenfeld (or the whole of Baden-Durlach) in the period 1575 to 1625? Thank you for any help given. -- Kelly Paul Graham

Daniel WESSINGER, born 1717 in Birkenfeld; marr. Margaretha ROTH 3
My ancestor, Daniel WESSINGER was born (or baptized?) 4 March 1717 in Birkenfeld. He married Margaretha ROTH, and died 23 July 1774 in Birkenfeld. A son, Johann Jacob WISSINGER, was born in Birkenfeld on 23 February 1745. Are there any clues to Daniel's parents? Could he have been related to the WESSINGERS of Durlach? Also, are there any clues to the parents of Margaretha ROTH? -- Kelly Paul Graham

Hints to Aid Research from the Moderator
When requesting help to find an individual or family there are several pieces of information that are crucial to finding the correct person or family. The family religion. Vital details (exact dates and places), if known Others in the family (with vital details) (i.e., Parents, spouse and/or children) It is also a help if a public posting of a family tree is available (i.e., FamilySearch Family Tree or RootsWeb WorldConnect) (Note: Ancestry and similar family tree collections are not open to the public)

Elizabeth, You know you are near the beginning of the available records in much the Wurttemberg area because of the 30-Years War (1618-1648). The 30-Years War was between the Catholics and Protestants where each were rampaging the region burning each others churches (and records). Where records do exist there may be a gap in that period making it difficult to go further back with accuracy. The earliest possible records would be circa 1550, when the churches (both Catholic and Protestant) started recording the BMD records for common man. If you can make a connection to royalty you may be able to go further back. I see some of those people are indexed in the databases at FamilySearch, but there is no linkage to a FS Family Tree. I've started your family at FS FT for you with Karl Kraus and Maria-Anna Halbherr. See FSFT ID = GQFB-55D What was the religion of the family? The daughter of Karl and Maria Anna, Sofie, was baptized in the Evangelische (Lutheran) Church in Kirchberg (OA. Gerabronn). Her marriage was also recorded the same church in Kirchberg, but was solemnized in Stuttgart. Apparently none of the other children were Evangelische, nor was their marriage. Did Sofie change religion? There is no marriage in the Evangelische Church in Zwiefalten for Karl and Anna Marie. The Catholic record microfilms for Unlingen, Gauingen, and Zwiefalten are all digitized, however none are indexed. The digitized microfilms are restricted and may only be viewed at an LDS Family History Center. Fred ____________________________________________________________ Suffering From Pain? Schmelzle 'n Hodapp names in Waldulm, Germany
Hello, I am working on family of my paternal grandmother, Louise Emma Schmelzle b. 1883 in Waldulm, Germany under the County seat of Kappelrodeck. I visited there this past summer and found many names of probable relation, but the lack of fluent German kept me at a disadvantage. I was able to visit the churches and see the country side with many of the names back in my ancestry. Families bounce between Waldulm, Kappelrodeck, Am Bach, Muttert, etc. Grandma's parents were William & Katharine Hodapp Schmelzle mar. Nov 1882 in Ringelbach. By 1889 they had both immigrated to the USA. Grandma was left in Waldulm with her grandparents, I assume, Joseph & Maria Anna Pfeiffer Hodapp mar. Sept 1848 in Waldulm at St. Albins. From here I go back with the names of Fischer, Lamm, Steinruck, Spath, & Hirth On the Schmelzle side I go back to Fischer, Oberle, Kocenninger, Bohnert, Huber, & Schnurr. Several cross over names are on both sides.... Would love to hear from anyone who is working on any relationships within these lines. Ruth in Illinois, USA

17c Post-War Repopulation of SW Germany 6
Hi all, i am hoping that someone on this list can direct me to whatever information might exist for the repopulation of towns in Baden and Württemberg after the 30 Years’ War (1618-1648)? it is my understanding that most of the towns in these provinces lost something between 50% and 70% of their populations, and that many (most?) of them invited people from outside the provinces to come and repopulate their towns. But I have not been able to identify any records that would show such immigration? I have to believe that SOME records must exist, because: 1) Most towns had to vote to accept a new “citizen” into their midst (and assign them a role, such as farmer, cooper, lumberjack, etc.); and 2) The regional Lord would have wanted to ensure that any new residents were added to their tax rolls. i have an ancestral line which I have traced back to the Rastatt District near Karlsruhe in Baden; as best as I have been able to confirm based on local parish records, my patriarchal ancestor suddenly appears in the town of Rotenfels about 1700 or so, with no other relatives living in the area prior to that point. i know that most of the town records from that time have long ago been collected and shipped to the Karlsruhe archives, and that I probably need to contact them; but I don’t know exactly what I’m asking for? can anyone offer me any advice on this? thanks in advance, Stuart

Reader and Fuchs Families
I am looking for information on my 3rd great grandparents - Joseph Reader and Veronica Fuchs from Baden. I have more information on Veronica's family than Joseph. Joseph was born 26 Feb 1810 Blaybach ant Walderch. He died on 6 Mar 1890 in Minden, Kearney, Nebraska. His younger brother John was born about 1820-1821. This could be him from the Baden Wanted List - "the year was 1846, but they left Baden in 1845. The entry translates - Wanted 1. (Breisach) Nro. 37311. Joseph Riede and wife from here have left here, and we have heard that they have probably gone to America. We bring it to the public notice that the Rieds are wanted." However his obituary states "Mr. Reader was a native of Germany, born in Blaybach, near Waldkich, in Baden Baden. He was a civil engineer of some note in Germany, and served in the German army during the German rebellion. " In 1855 census he was in Glassboro, New Jersey. In 1860 census he was in Mantua, New Jersey a laborer. In 1865 he was in Camden. In 1880 census and 1885 census the family was in Minden Nebraska. He and Veronica traveled to Nebraska with his brother John, their daughter Mary, their son John and his family, the Householder and Merrick families. Veronica Fuchs was the daughter of Laurenz and Katharina (Weber) Fuchs. She was born 31 Aug 1815 Neiderrimsingen Alt Breisah Baden. Laurenz and Katharina were married 4 Feb 1813 and had six children: Maria, Veronika, Gervas, Rosina, Agatha and Katharina. Laurenz's parents were Johann and Elisabeth (Faber) Fuchs. Katharina's parents Gervas and Anastasia (Baehrmaeennin?) Weber. I would love to connect with anyone who have these families in their tree. Thanks Cathy

Thank you!
My gr gr grandfather John Nicholas Eberhart was born in 1829 in either Wurttemberg or in Pennsylvania, we aren’t sure. His older sister was born in Wurttemberg but his younger siblings here in America. Our Eberhart family is not related to the glass works Eberhart family that I can tell. His parents names were John and Mary Ann/Marian.
