Lorentz Bachman of Catawissa, Pa.
Preface: I'm familiar with the Bachman families of Northampton County, Pennsylvania. I also have copies of J. Ross Baughman's works on the Baughman/Bachman migration out of Switzerland. I have a question regarding a line that appears relatively distinct from the aforementioned (and apologies in advance, this may be long, and I'm going to use the words "reportedly", "claimed" and "presumed" a lot). One of the earlier members of the line in question (possibly the immigrant ancestor) was reportedly Lorentz Bachman (1734-1803) m. (2nd) Susanna Kistler (1758-1804). His first wife is claimed to have been Maria Magdalena Kistler (relationship to Susanna unknown). There are literally hundreds of on-line trees that include Lorentz and Susanna (Kistler) Bachman, with varying levels of detail (often conflicting), and little to no source documentation. My question regards Lorentz and Susanna's reported son Lorentz Bachman (b.19 Nov 1773 or 1774?) m. (Anna or Maria or Catherine or some combination thereof) Kunkel, presumed daughter of Johann Jurg (George) Kunkel. I'm looking for some documentary evidence that Lorentz, son of Lorentz and Susanna, was the same person as Lorentz, husband of Anna/Maria/Catherine Kunkel. There seem to have been a number of Lorentz Bachmans (at least four) similar in age and approximate location (and at least one other of whom had a wife Catherine). Records at Friedan's Church, Albany Twp., Berks County, Pa. list baptisms for parents Lorentz and Catherina Bachman: daughter Maria b.12 Mar 1792 and son David b.03 Oct 1794. Other records at that church reference the 10 Jul 1792 birth of daughter Anna Maria to Lorentz and Susanna Bachman. Lorentz and Susanna reportedly lived in Lynn Twp., Lehigh County, which is just across the county line from Albany Twp. One might easily assume they were father & son, but I have no evidentiary proof of that. I have ample evidence that Lorentz Bachman and Catherine Kunkel's daughter Maria is my 3rd great-grandmother, Mary (Bachman) Martin, and that Lorentz died in early 1812 in Catawissa, Northumberland (now Columbia) County, Pa. I'm seeking solid documentary evidence that the Lorentz Bachman who died in Catawissa was in fact the son of Lorentz Bachman and Susanna Kistler, as is so widely claimed. Anyone?
