WANTED VK3YE LED LDR AGC diagram

is there anyone out there that can help.
i would like the wiring diagram for the agc "idiots guide for non technical muppet" and pictures. i have read that lots of people have done this with great success but unable to find instructions or pictures just the you tube link. and where to fit it in the bitx40.
any help would be brilliant.
Huw.

I watched his youtube videos, and froze it to get the diagram.
Starts off with a basic diagram, then gets onto the better version, 3 videos all worth watching.

cheers Phil i watched all 3 of the vids and paused it and copied the diagram from the screen. i was hoping for a better picture and instructions so i can print it off. and see how he wired it to the radio. brilliant vids just need more of an idiots guide. especially for me.

I have swapped the lefthand 10k pre-set for a pot, so can have adjustable AGC on the front panel of the Bitx, thats assuming I ever get to finish playing and box it up.

so my son took a screen shot of the video for me so i can print off and read
now to find these parts on the board. and work out how to attach them to the new board.?
i like the idea of an adjustable pot for the agc. can you show me a picture of your board Phill so i can see what both sides of the board look like.

Have a photo, it is laid out left to right as per the diagram, other side of the vero board is a mess, as its being used for the umpteenth time, but can describe whats there.
Wire connections Green, Orange(wiper) Blue 10K pot for AGC, red above is +12v, black below is +12v, top red is audio in, thats the wire connected to the resistor. preset with red and black is the feed across the LED to the S meter, and yellow/red is audio out.
Breaks on rear of pcb are under all electrolytics, resistors flat on pcb and the diode. and between the transistor stages.
I have tried to photograph the rear but is a mess, I strip build following the circuit left to right, hoping to get some pads shortly and do a manhatten style build.

Hope it helps.

Try this, may help. tracks run left to right, breaks are where the blue dashed lines are.
Did try photographing the tracks, but it does not help.

Pot for S meter, depends on the meter.

thank you Phil.
now that makes more sense to me. i can follow that.?
back to a bit of playing at lunchtime with the old soldering gun.
thanks ill post a photo or two once its done.

Glad I could help.
Look forward to your finished results

so here it is Phil one board nearly finished. Thank you for your assistance. i haven't fitted the audio 10k trim pot i will need to shop around or hunt in the depths of a junk box for that part. i assume its just to tweek the volume to a reasonable level.
so the next question is where to fit the wires to the board.
I've put the pictures as files as they where massive.

philip yates

I used a piece of heat shrink tubing over the LED/LDR, so its nicely confined and the LDR only sees the flashing of the LED, Level of flash is only low, although I think it depends on the LDR and the LED combination.
Coupled with the RF gain, it becomes a fantastic RX to listen too.
3 pots + tuning pot so far. AF, RF, AGC and tuning.

Yours looks good, take it, all functions, having it adjustable I think maybe overkill, but without trying one will not know.

i will use the heat shrink once its in the box and wired up ( after i show it flashing away and working).
where abouts did you connect yours too. do i take the audio from the board where the volume control socket is and fit it in-between the socket and the volume control pot.
as your probably aware this is my first time building and adding without instructions.
Huw?

philip yates

Yes thats it, take the red wire from the 3 way socket and connect it to the input, output from AGC then goes to AF pot.

Think thats part of the fun, most is words from e-mails, bits of info from the forum, some good stuff on here, and theres at least 3 pages on Facebook. Plus it got some of us, experimenting again.

Plenty of help from others for me, never programmed a Raduino... so had help there.
So nice to try and help others along the way.
Cannot wait to get mine cased, but that could take a while.

oops. sorry Phill i wanted to show you it working tonight unfortunately it doesn't want to seem to play. i will have another go over the weekend.in your picture the audio in goes from the other side to the resistor than in the wiring diagram. the problem I'm having is if i leave the meter in the led is alight all the time so i took that out. if i just connect the audio wires i have audio. i can see why that is as it just goes straight back to it with out passing through anything other than the trim pot. at this point if i connect the power leads it cuts out any audio regardless of the volume control. might going about it the wrong way so ill leave it till the weekend?

Dear Phi, thanks for sharing your AGC.
I copied the same circuit now but I don't understand the connection of the S-Meter.
I added the S-Meter as your diagram but did not work. Would you please let me know the detail of the S-Meter connection.

ja9mat Hidehiko.

Huw,?

I had LED on all the time, till I realised the transistors were in the wrong way round,?
I did not get a good response from mine with the audio input in, on the other end of the 3.3k so swapped it, may try a preset there later.

Hidehiko.

If you track down Peter VK3YE videos it will help with the S meter, the Pot is one leg to +12v and the wiper onto the + side of the S meter, - side of the meter goes onto the - side of the LED, in other words the meter and its potentiometer is across the LED.

Hope that helps.

Thanks dear Phil,
Well I experimentes the original circuit but it did not work well so I modified as an attached file. S-meter works well in this circuit. The original circuit really works for Bitx-40 ??

I think there are several variations on the AGC design, will have a play, theres always something better out there.

May not work for me, but someone else it may, all depends on what components we have at hand.

Hello folks,

could anyone describe where to connect those wires form the AGC circuit to the BITX40 pcb? Photos would also help a lot.
I just got mine BITX40 recently and now I'm in the process of modifying it. AGC is next mod I would like to do.

Thanks in advance.
