Use of BitX40 for WSJT-X

Has anyone success in using the BitX 40 for JT-65?

I am successfully using it with FT8. Using a raspberry pi and wsjt-x. I made PTT with a USB to serial adapter and made a circuit for the RTS signal. Had a little problem because there was some sort of ground leak and the bitx40 ?stayed keyed after the push to talk released but I worked around it and if you use the proper audio interface kit that has a ground isolator you shouldn't have a problem. It's my best use of my bitx so far. I would like to add agc next. It needs it.?

Only on receive so far. it works really well after I removed C91 and C92 as recommended from other post in this group for USB enhancement.
Transmit will take some experimenting.? The heat dissipation is hard on the PA after transmissions.? Check out this group I'm pretty sure others have worked this out for JT65.

Been running FT8 for the last several days with no problems. After about 5 contacts, I'll let the radio "rest" for a little bit. Even with the power reduced, I can feel the heat sink getting warm. The furthest contact was with an EA8. Worked bunches of US stations, and hearing lots of DX.

Ooops...you were asking about JT65. I did make a couple contacts using JT65, but the transmissions are even longer. I had no problems with the contacts I made. It seems to be less crowded.

Yes.? I bought mine specially for working JT65.?
I have made many contacts using that mode.?

A couple of notes:
  • JT65 runs on USB even on 40 meters - so you need? to use a version of the Raduino software that supports changing sidebands.? A pushbutton has to be added to swap
  • I made a small circuit board with 2? 600/600/ ohm cheap audio transformers to isolate the receive and transmit lines from the computer
  • I also added a VOX circuit on this board - the transmitter is keyed when the software starts sending tones.
  • I limit my output to 2 Watts and have made no changes to the cooling of the BITX final transistor?

Thanks to all who have replied to my quesiton. I'd like to eventually convert the BitX40 to a BitX20 and do JT on that band. Ted

I have the bitX40 to build, can u link me to that post for the c91 c92 modification?

There are a number of posts that talk about this modification. Here is one of them:

Not only possible but tons of fun! Highly recommended as a great use of the BITX40. I've done FT8 on 40/30/20 with it and it works well.?

In this blog post: ?
you mention audio oscillations when the volume pot is at a minimum.
Maybe you have solved this, that's an old post. ?But if not:

Raj has found that the LM386 oscillates when the input pin is at a low impedance,
the solution is to add a 1k resistor between the volume pot middle pin and pin 3 of the LM386.

I have converted my BITX40 to 20 meters.? I bought the qrp-labs Band Pass Filter and Low Pass Filter for 20 M and replaced the built in ones.? I think I made one change to the Raduino software to swap to 20 meters.? Works great on 20 M.? Definitely??remove C91 and C92?as VFO will be at 19 MHz for 40 Meters USB? and 26 MHz for 20 Meters -?

hmm...seems that a DPDT switch as a means to toggle the band and rout the output thru the LPF can make this a Bitx 4020 type system?

Has anyone tried modifying the WSJT-X software to invert the tones so that e.g. JT65 transmissions on LSB are equivalent to ones on USB???

Greg,
Can one just edit the Raduino to change the frequencies from the 40 meter band to the 20 meter band, or do you need a new sketch?

You can just edit it in the sketch .
