ubitx v5 is in production

Laurence Oberman

Hello Geoffrey,
Where you located
Send me a paypal invoice to oberman.l@.... I will gladly pay
your shipping back to hfsignals. Once we know the state of your board
and what was wrong I think you m,ay feel differently about all of
this.
I just ordered one for my other son.

Fahran, Thank you for all you do and continue to do for all of us.
Sincerely

Geoffrey,

We test each of the boards and the tester initials them before they are sent. That's all we promise. We do not have any intent of swindling people by purposely sending them bad boards.

This is what I can do.

At your cost, send me the non-working board. I will personally look at what is wrong. If i find, in my opinion that the board is fine or has been destroyed due to bad connections or improper supply, etc. I will not send a replacement or the board back either. On the other hand, if there is a genuine problem that we sent a defective board to you, I will personally refund the money regardless of what HF Signals does. This is quite distressing to have to deal with this. My postal address is good on www.qrz.com.

We see everyday that this mailing list is full of people who are kind, innovative, proactive, ready to meet challenges, and above all interact with each other though cooperation. That is the spirit of the "Open Source" movement. Anyone who does not meet this model must learn quickly and change their attitude, in other?words, adapt to reality. "Open Source" is behind most of the leading innovation of our time, whether it is in technology, finance (crowd funding), communication, or information sharing (publishing).

I am actually surprised at how far the person with the loud trumpets and capital bold sentences, managed to achieve through annoying letters and continuous repetition of his statements. This is not unlike how a certain President was elected to office, in spite of his belligerence and constant false accusations.

We have pushed the ubitx v5 into production. The intial 100 boards are here. I will update the website soon too. See the scans on /g/BITX20/album?id=84174.

I have uploaded the new Arduino firmware and the schematic on . The new firmware breaks backward compatibility with the previous firmware as the Intermediate Frequency is now 11.059 MHz and the relay switching is different.? Probably, is it is possible to patch the new code to switch between the two LPF relay switching schemes as well as the IF with some #define statements.

The new 'features' are :

- LM386 is back. All hail the cross-over distortion sickness!

- The IF is now 11.059 MHz, these crystals are easily available, with 68 pf, they give a pretty good 2.7 KHz band pass. As their frequency is away from any spur of 16 MHz and 25 MHz (the two crystal oscillators on the Raduino) hence, no spurs!

- The relay switching scheme is different. The 30 MHz LPF is now always on, the individual LPFs for lower bands are switched in or bypassed (by default). It is easily understood in the circuit diagram.

- The CW wave-shaper uses 1 uf capacitor in place of 0.1u, this reduces the key-clicks.

Get one quick, as there was a production run of 100 and many people wave being waiting for the announcement...

Hey Ron, you know what is worse then the entire mess this "faulty?" board has caused?? You expressing political opinion!? This is absolutely not the place for it, no matter who you are for or against!? Please leave the politics at the door, plenty of places across the net for it, this IS not one of them.

OK agreed!

I shall send you the board!

I thank you in advance for your cooperation.?

May the peace be with you

In looking at the v5 schematic,? I see the transistors in IF(?) Amp are now BFR93W. What does this device bring to the party? Also R253 in the CW-TONE chain is now 220k vs 1k. Is this to knock the cw tone volume down?

As a general comment, if there is future revision of the v5 schematic,? if would be really nice to have the clock assignments labelled as well as the stages and filters.

Perhaps somebody with some fancy Adobe product can grab the schematic and label that?

James,
Where did you find the v5 schematic???

Message from Ashhar:?
Link to v5 details:?

It should be noted that someone (Ashhar?) has updated the Github data.? The current version does have the clock signals listed, AND the 45Mhz IF transmit transistors updated.

I have not looked into the code, however there need to be changes based on the LPF relay changes and the new 2nd IF frequency.

Now for me the big question for me is when or if Dr. Lee will be updating his Nextion code for the new boards? I may try that myself if it is not done by the time I get my new board.

Now looking forward to adding the linear amp kit that I bought after I verify signal purity (both before and after amp).

Hi Farhan.
Great work. 3 Quick questions, I hope....
1: How do you test your XTALS for the 11.0592mkhz SSB filter? Matching them? Tolerances?
2: I see you still have Audio running via M1 /M2 relay, same as TX/RX Antenna. Is this needed as the Q74 mutes on TX?
3: Did you get your BFR106 to test in the IF amp for less issues at > 14mhz?

Again, thanks for all the excellent work and feed back. I am in the process of converting 3 of the V3 boards to V5...

OK, I am reading questions that do not align with what I am seeing on the Github repository.? I also notice that the data on the hub is changing.

When coupled to the statement that the boards shipping since Monday have been version 5, and the last change on Github was 16 hours ago, my big question is what am I getting with the board that I have ordered today?

Is there just a lag of the data getting to the Github, or are there changes being made to the production process?

Nick is asking about BFR106 vs the BFR93W that are shown on the schematic.? I also noted a question on having the Clocks labeled, yet on both versions (I have downloaded 2 different schematics so far) the clocks are clearly marked.? Was there a version between the original and the one that is up there now?

I understand that documentation for public consumption may lag internal documents used for production.? My real question is when will the data be accurate, and when will the link on HF Signals be updated?

I guess I could have been clearer.

On the v5 schematic I downloaded from github today the clocks are labeled: CLK#0, CLK#1, CLK#2.

As I tend to like as much annotation as I can get I would like to see: CLK#0(BFO), CLK#1(LSB/USB), & CLK#2(VFO). And a stage title(IF AMP etc.) and 3.5-5 MHz Filter etc. I believe this would help the new-comer.

We were a team, and in the hotel the night before a 50,000 person conference, I could request a software change and he would make it, and we could put the equipment on the show room floor the next morning and it simply would not crash, ever. ? ?I’ve never seen anything like it in my life.

But once, he had a bug. ?
It must’ve gone on for a while, because I got frustrated and asked him unkindly , “when is this software going to have no further bugs? “

?
Patiently, he explained to me that there is no real world software that has no bugs. ? But the number of bugs goes down asymptotically towards zero overtime. ?

And of course, pretty soon his stuff was bulletproof again. ?

There’s some wisdom there, when you’re dealing with other people who are smarter than yourself. ?
