uBitx microphone wire up

Question from a really new Newby (first kit build). I have the main board of the uBitx v4 and all the connections to an Amateurradiokits case including the front panel PCB from ARK wired. My problem is: the XLR mic socket has 3 wires connected to it; the PTT MIC has 5 connections on it but the Electret mic has 2 solder pads and the PTT switch has 2 connections. How do these get wired together? Which plug should I use the XLR &/or the stereo? I've looked at all the sites I can think of to find a picture or instructions to no avail.
Thanks for any and all help and I can hear the snickers!

First off, the electret mic/PTT combination share the ground or common wire.? The uBitx PTT is activated by pulling the input line down to the ground or common voltage.? The microphone is connected between the other wire and ground.? In the original HF Signals' supplied parts, that is connecting the "tip" of the 1/8" (3.5mm) plug to the positive of the electret mic and One side of the PTT to the "ring" connector.? The two common connections are connected to the "shield" of the plug.

I am not familiar with the Amateurradiokits case and front panel board, however it does have to connect to the uBitx board, and for the supplied mic and switch it should follow the above wiring.? Are you saying that the Amateurradiokits board comes with an XLR style socket?? I would assume that that would accommodate typical hand held mics used for both Ham and CB radios.? There are many wiring diagrams for those mics, so you would need to find the specifics for the mic you have to match to the combination that you have.

I assume that you have looked at the wireup instructions on the HF Signals web page:

If you have more questions, I would need to know where to find the wiring or schematics of the front panel board.? A quick look with Google did not bring it up.

Not even a little bit of snickering going on here!

Most of us were puzzled somewhere in putting the fine ubitx into the nice enclosure kit.

I am not sure why there are 2 places to plug in the mic. I used the 4 pin connector, and wired in an old speaker mic I had. Okay to use the supplied mic element and a button for ptt. Some have installed a 8 pin connector to match another rig they have.

Ubitx.com does have much info now on case integration.

I received my Indikit? Nextion case about three days ago and am assembling my uBitx. From what I have found, this is how it is supposed to be.? It is too bad they did not include pin numbers on the image. At the back of the plug the pins are numbered from 1-4.

Putting it together is a bit of a trick since not all instructions are present. It has taken a bit of research. I am not done yet.

Please forgive my stupidity....I have searched and read and still cannot comprehend how to connect the provided mic to the 4 pin connector. I am really confused about the 3 pins and only 2 connections on the element.?

Can someone confirm that the connections described below will work?

Mic to pin1 and 2
PTT to pin 2 and pin 3

?While I cannot Tell you which pin to wire which wire to, it depends on the mike plug.
? I personally plan to use the 8 pin socket that a coupe of my radios use. And I have 2 mikes wired that way.
?One is a Heil Gold Line, dual element that I used on an older Kenwood, and will also work on another radio I have.
?Regarding CB and Ham Radio mikes, it is easy enough to replace the plug on it, or install one one a Mike that came without a plug.
?CB' s used many different plugs and sockets, from 4 pin to 5 pin DIN and up
?Mostly 4 or 5 pin I rewired a Mike from an older VHF Marine radio to work with an older Kenwood 2 meter rig.

Thanks Wayne. I will be using the mic element and switch that came with the kit. I understand that you cannot comment on the actual pins to connect to, but can you confirm that my thought process is correct and that the mic shares 1 of the pins with the ptt switch.

Pin 1 - Ground
Pin 2 - Microphone
Pin 3 - PTT

Wire the ground side of the microphone element (one with connector fingers touching metal case of element) and one side of the PTT switch to Pin 1. Other side of mic to Pin 2, other side of PTT switch to Pin 3.?

This is the ¡°conventional¡± wiring for 4-pin microphone plugs (and would accept a Cobra CB microphone). Make sure that your chassis connector is wired to match. ?

Fantastic! Thank you Mike!

Sorry for needing the idiots guide.

It¡¯s not an idiots guide, it¡¯s a learning process. We¡¯re all going through it, some have just started earlier. I went through this exact issue about a month ago.?

Best of luck. Enjoy!

I hope we get to talk on the air.

I can answer you, the mike has 2 connections, the ptt switch has 2 connections, for the mic one of the connections on the base goes to the metal body of the mic and should be connected to ground/earth/0 volts.
one side of the ptt switch goes to the ptt pin the other side goes to earth/ground etc so two wires go to one connection the earth/ground connection.
that¡¯s why you only need 3 wires total for mic and ptt.
I don¡¯t think I can add any more to that, that would explain it any better.
I think you are trying to overthink the problem, the wiring diagram shows only 3 wires from the main board, one of them earth/ground, that one MUST be the common element .
