Transmit power supply?

While eagerly awaiting the arrival of my Bitx40 (which I just ordered yesterday), I took the time to look over the wep page at hfsigs. I noticed it said something about using a separate power supply for the TX circuit for greater power output. Does that mean I can't use the same 12 volt supply as the rest of the radio? What has everyone else here done, as far as TX power supply?

Hi Rich,

For QRP operation (5W) just feed it 12V. I have mine wired in parallel with the main power and that's the end of it. But, if you want higher wattage, it can be powered separately with up to 25V (I think...) and you'll get ~25W output with it. It also needs a bigger heat sink in that case.?There are many methods for getting higher voltage to it but higher output is the end result.

Bill N2CQR has used 24 VDC on his BitX40 for transmit power, getting about a Watt per Volt. Look through his blog entries for November.
