Submitted suggestion form to Gigaparts (US) to stock zbitx 4/11/2025

I rejoined bitx20 after learning of zbitx project/product, it is very interesting to me. I built 2 home-brew bitx radios about 8 years ago with integrated 902 MHz transverter, but my choice of LO was very bad, so best DX was ~200 meters!

11 April 2025, I submitted form to US distributor "gigaparts", who already sell ubitx version, asking them to carry new zbitx (kit or assembled, either OK.)

It will be easier in US to buy zbitx from US distributor, as special customs treatment of small orders ("de minimus") in US is stated to end 02 May 2025, after that day it is uncertain, difficult or expensive (or all) for individual small-order user direct import.

Thank you.

Wonder whether similar options are coming up for VUs with local distributors?

When I tried to buy uBITX directly a couple of years ago, it was not possible.

I don't think you understand how tariffs work, let me try and explain...

Presently, under the de minimus exception, items up to $800 in value can be imported into the US Duty-Free (no tariff).

If a distributor, like Gigaparts, imports a quantity of goods that amounts to more than $800, say a ten-pack of zBitx at $149/ea, that shipment at $1,490 would be charged the current tariff rate based on the originating country for the shipment because it exceeds the de minimus exception.

If the de minimus exception is eliminated totally (a big if), the every shipment into America would be charged the current tariff rate based on the originating country for the shipment.

Currently, we have only heard that the US is planning to remove the de minimus exception with regard to shipments from China (HF Signals don't ship from China, they ship from India), and late Friday there was some sort of exemption for computers, cellphones and other certain electronics from China announced.

So the current situation favors an individual purchase from HF Signals direct, since the de minimus exception is currently in-place. If the de minimus exception were to go away, understand that every item crossing the border into America would be tariffed, and buying a zBitx from Gigaparts doesn't avoid the tariff, since the tariffs will be charged as it crosses the border, no matter the recipient.

The situation is fluid and predictions are hard to make, but right now the ONLY way to get a zBitx is direct from HF Signals, and you should be prepared for the possibility of a tariff, but for now there is no tariff on it coming into the country. What a tariff on an item like the zBitx might be, and the fees DHL would charge to collect those tariffs are both unknown and unpredictable.

I hope that makes sense - I tried to keep politics out of the reply, as there's no need for it here.

My advice, order one as soon as you can, and hopefully have it arrive while the de minimus exception is in-place.

Good luck,
