split the group

is it not time to split this group into? v1to 4 , v5? and version 6?? i have no interest yet i v6 but wading through v 6 infois a waste of time

Hi DG,

Most computers, tablets, phones, etc have a delete function. Mine gets a lot of use and after more than 10 years of beating on it I find that it still works.

Go for it.
Create? uBitx-v5-KD8CEC-Nextion-phone-only
or whatever on groups.io or facebook or a 2400 baud dialup BBS.

I'll be staying right here.

Skipping that this is a 15-1/2 year old list originally started to discuss Farhan's BITX20 design and has evolved into a home for all his BITX designs, you might be happier doing what I suggested below and usually paste as a response every time this topic comes up when there is a new version of Farhan's classic.

Go to?/g/BITX20/editsub and set email to a level you can live with. I like just the daily summary but many prefer none.? Then use the topic view /g/BITX20/topics on the website and read what you are interested in and the list reads almost like a forum.? The search could use some work but at least this converts the fire hose to a drinkable level.

Another approach is to set your email preference to "email each message separately", then use your mail reader effectively:
1. create a filter to put all BITX20 email in its own incoming folder
2. automatically remove the topics you're not interested in as part of the filtering (or use a search / mark / delete all sequence each time you check that folder)
Details will depend on your mail reader, but the above is easy in gmail for example.

Yes that would make things a little easier in the subject line have the board model you are discussing (example [BITX20] [BITX40] [BITXv?] [BITXv6] etc ) in the subject line then design a mail sort filter and msg folder structure? (ie like Thunderbird) transfer incoming emails for each separate board type to it's own folder.

That way you wouldn't miss anything: general interest posts would be in normal inbox and separate board model? folders with only the emails applicable to the specific board under discussion. If you have no interest in other boards just bulk mark them as read periodically.

my last dialup BBS was maybe 24Kb.

If you go to your Subscription, Email Delivery, go to Advanced Preferences at bottom of page, click Following Only, click First Message Also.? You will then get the first message of each new topic.? If you do not Follow the topic, you do not see any further messages on that topic.? Look at Muting and Following at the Help button at the top of the home page for detailed info.

I just tried this.? You will see "Unfollow this Topic" at the bottom of the email.? Click on it and you will be asked to confirm.? No more messages from that topic after that.

There is some information that is common to all versions, or to multiple versions.?
Splitting the group would defeat the purpose of a general information discussion
group.?

Threads can be used to isolate specific topics, as long as the threads are not
being hijacked with off-topic posts.?

Farhan has said that his radios are for experimenters. I just got a v6, still having a 20 and two others in various stages of undress next to my work bench. Now I am interested in v6 but seeing the post about the older radios I an incentive to go back to the other three.?

Here we go again. It seems every time a new version of one of the Bitx products, calls to split the group, create subgroups, add hashtags, etc come up. It's not likely to happen and most folks here don't want it to happen.

Y'all are kinda mean!? I think it's a legitimate question to ask.

I agree the group should not be split, I don't agree with just dismissing the question.?

I also think if we do better at putting the version / hashtag in the subject, it will be easier for readers to ignore messages that don't apply to them.? So please be sure to use #v4, #v5, #v6, etc. in your subject to help everybody!

Cheers,
?- Bill? KB3T

Hi,

Yes for sure Bill.? Everyone should add a hashtag to their post based on the subject.? Most needed ones already exist. Just choose the appropriate one and it will be added automaticaly to your subject line.

Notice, if you click on "Hashtag" on the left, you can mute whatever topic you don't want to receive.? Easy!

Interesting, but we still have lots of commonality.? Problems - well many of these are common between v3 and v4 - that owners may wish to still use and advance.? display and other upgrades may apply to all or several versions.? v6 is merely the new generation.? we also have different audiences for those enjoying a basic ubitx rig and one that is highly tricked out.? I think its best we stay together.? Be patient to be in community with all ubitx owners.?

enjoy your build and radiations.?

Curt

One group that I belong to has sub groups in it so you still log into the same group yet there are sub categories. ?I do see where this would be a slight issue when a problem is across all versions but it might clean up things a litte. ?Just sayin....

Curt M.

And I, for one, do not want the group to fracture into subgroups at
all. I find all emails about the uBitx and Bitx40 relevant, not only
to their respective radios but across versions. I do not want to hunt
around in subgroups for the information I want to find. - Rich WB2GXM

See the help page, you are automatically member of all subgroups and get all messages in the digest etc. So it is organized but not fractured.

Subgroups

Groups.io supports subgroups. A subgroup is a group within another group. When viewing your group on the website, you can create a subgroup by clicking the 'Subgroup' tab on the left side. The email address of a subgroup is of the form [email protected].

Having been in and out and back in ham radio several times since the late ¡®50s, I have to say this Bitx group has been probably the most rewarding and fun time I¡¯ve ever had with radio. ?I love radio kits and projects and tinkering. ?I read the entire groups Bitx digest daily and and find it to be very helpful, informative and educational and at the best cost ratio one could ever expect. ?It would, in my humble opinion, be a disaster to split this forum into segments. ?There are a few other forums that apply to QRP radio that are helpful also, but this one is far and away the most helpful and informative on-line group I¡¯ve ever seen. ?Personally, I don¡¯t make a ton of contributions here, but I am a loyal reader and absorber of the questions and answers available here. ?And, if it were split into segments based on Bitx model, newbies would loose the historical significance of the Bitx evolution and the contributions of others to that evolution, a valuable education in itself.

Just my two cents worth.
