Sleep/Power Off Display

I’m planning on leaving the sBitx powered up but with the app closed. I’ve got VNC and VPN setup to remotely launch the application for when I want to remotely use the software.?

while it’s hooked up and not in use, I’d like for the display to be turned off. I’ve tried using xset, setterm, and tvservice but none of those will get the display to either sleep or power down. I’ve not used the Raspberry Pi screen before so am I missing something obvious?

I figured it out:
?
vcgencmd display_power 0
This will turn the display off and below will turn it back on
?
vcgencmd display_power 1

Joshua,
When you turn off the screen, the RPi still draws power. Have you tested how long the device will last under constant voltage?
I'm only asking because in the year and a half that I've been using the sBitx, I once forgot to turn off the main switch and turned off the input power after about 5 hours.
The next time I turned it on, the OS couldn't log in. I had to use the backup to start it up.

I’ve not done load or duration testing yet. My main purpose was to preserve the screen from long durations of leaving the device powered.?

Just a note, when you put the RPi into shutdown, the screen will be off and it will still draw power. Please test it and you will see what I am talking about.

Joshua,
?
I went a step farther and set up shortcuts on the desktop, I put the vcgencmd display_power 1 shortcut in the very upper right
corner so I could turn the display back on by hitting the the corner of the screen.
I was running web remote most the time so I left the sBitx software minimized.

You could also simply use the screen brightness tool I created as well. It doesn't completely disable the backlight, but will reduce power consumption and extend display life.

I’ve got a similar shortcut setup. I’ve also setup SSH over VPN if I should ever need to get into the box remotely.?

JJ - I’m still on stock firmware. Your mod interests me but I’m waiting on some fresh SD Cards to have a separate install I can switch between. Those should arrive tomorrow :)

Are these Terminal Commands or aps or what??
Can you explain how you set it up??
Thank you
