People, It took us a long time to get the v3 radio ready, but it involved an overhaul of our own processes that had become scattered due to the Raspberry Pi and display shortages. We finally have secured all the components and we are able to now offer the v3 board and the full kit at really low price points, which was our intention anyway., The sBitx v3 board is a full 25 watts radio, with robust IRF510s in the final. This board (minus the Raspberry Pi) is now available, ex-stock?for $180. You can directly buy a Raspberry Pi Zero 2 W and have a full SDR running for less than $200. The fully assembled kit with Raspberry Pi 4, 2GB and the Raspberry Pi's own 7inch capacitive touch display all mounted in the Aluminium box is available for USD 399. There is nothing in the software that precludes you from running the v3 software?on the earlier hardware (DE as well as v2).
Here are some links: 1. The software manual (still incomplete but usable) is on? 2. The software is available on 3. Video showing how to hook up the v3 board? I?made a few videos to show how to use the new software:
1. sBitx v3-? first look
2. sBitx v3 - Basics? 3. sBitx v3 - CW operation? 4. sBitx v3 - FT8 operation?
I hope you all have a great time with the radios and without the radios this season.

Excellent work Ashhar.??V3 software is awesome.??Updated my V2 radio without issues.??I bought it primarily for FT8 and that works great.??Also a great SSB and CW rig as well.??Very Happy here

It took a long time and many hands. Post the v3, some of us are going to band up and get some method to the madness. - F

Would it be possible to add an external amplifier in the future?
|
Jim, I have added an opto-isolated output?to control the T/R switching of typical linear amplifiers.? ?While I have available truly ancient vacuum tube amplifiers, there are also solid state amplifiers widely available; be CERTAIN to have one that includes adequate filtering!? ?My SB-200 doesn't present the best impedance to the sBitx but it works nicely and also makes the signal even CLEANER.? ?

Can the V3 board be operated headless, with display being viewed on a PC or iPad for control? Or is the 7” screen required.
Jeff K2SDR
|
Yes, Jeff, It can be accessed from any web browser. It doesn't transmit on ssb due to security restrictions of the browser but the cw and ft8 are very easy to use. - f

Is there a file or document that shows the dimensions of the sBitx V2/V3 case with the measurements of the mounting points available on the Git hub site?
Was looking but don't see one.

Can I swap out the V2 board and hook up the V3, or will it have to be adapted?

You can swap it out, it is a direct replacement.

I am adding a similar output to drive external amp/rf switch to my 32 bit Raduinos for the “classic” uBITX family. May I ask what was the part number for the opt-isolator?

Installed V3 and tried out FT8 today.??Works great!??My biggest issue was I would not wait long enough for a response before sending another CQ, but the software worked right through my mistakes

Great news!! ?
These radios are going to be great for ALE operations because they will switch frequencies so fast and without relays.?
in my nation we have a security system that encourages groups like ours locally to partner with the government and receive licenses to use additional frequencies as part of our civil defense. I could see this being used.?

Thank you. I have one other question - if I operate headless do I have to have the two pots control board connected?

Mark,
Sorry for the delay.? ?It appears to be a "PC817" which has a modest "current transfer ratio" of anywhere from 0.5 to 6

No, you don't need the encoders connected at all if you have a mouse.? To change any control with the mouse: 1. Click on the control. 2. Use the scroll wheel to change the value. This works. On the web UI, click on the frequency display for a drip down tuning knob that you can drag around (with your finger tip) to tune. The knobless touch tuning works so well that we are considering dropping the encoders in the future hardware versions. Our phones no longer have a rotary dial, the only reason why we need a tuning knob is Nostalgia - that is my reason to have it on my radio too. -f
