SBITX V2 - DUAL MONITORS?
I enjoy using the digital modes. The built-in monitor is much better than many systems? however, for home shack? usage, a large external monitor would make it much better for running the digital software.. like WSJT-X.?
I have plugged in several different monitors into the external pi jack. The result is always the same. On the large monitor? display is not correct and part of it is missing. If I disconnect the voltage from the internal built-in screen ,,reboot? then external screen display size fits properly. There must be a software better way. The other? problem is the software does not use the large screen properly. If I select macro they appear on the top of the screen an block out ft8 stations received. Any one runnning a large monitor?? Or 2 Monitors .. internal? and external. ?Sure could use your expertise / experience to get mine working? Thanks Joe VE1BWV |
Hi Joe,
I am running two monitors: the touchpad and an external HDMI. ?The RPi will only support two displays. ?You can use the two HDMI ports but then you¡¯d have to disconnect the touchpad. I run the sBitx software on the touchpad and use the HDMI connected monitor for WSJT and other stuff. ?In order to run sBitx on the touchpad, you have to launch it from the touchpad. ?When the passkey is entered (assuming you are using the web interface) the scaling is as intended. ?There is one hiccup. In this configuration, the touchpad mouse function assumes that the user wants to use the touchpad mouse for both monitors. ?With two monitors in operation, the touchpad mouse mapping becomes the entire desktop making it difficult to control the sBitx. ?If you use an external mouse, it controls both monitors as you would expect. I use the touchpad mouse functionality to control only the touchpad. ?In order to do that you need to tell the RPi to do so. ?I created and Icon that I launch before I run sBitx. ?The command to limit the touchpad mouse function to only the touchpad is: ?sudo xinput map-to-output ¡°raspberrypi-stop¡± ¡°DSI-1¡±. ?One of these days I¡¯ll figure out how to automate this limit during system boot but that will be another day. Good luck, Scott ? |
Scott, Thanks?for the info. I use an external mouse and keyboard. I hookup my ext monitor to the jack closest to the back of the pi. What sequence do you use to start everything.? Boot the sbitx Open a terminal and issue your Map command Start sbitx Start wjst x What is your configuration for WSJT-X? Rig control setting? What device do you select for your audio functions..?? ?Rx audio and Tx audio ? For rig control What do you set for ptt? Thanks again for your help. I am sure there are many others that could use your help.. Joe VE1BWV? On Tue, Jun 27, 2023, 7:16 PM Scott KE8KYP <scott_massey@...> wrote: Hi Joe, |

I run a dual Hamstick antenna in a dipole configuration in my attic.? Because of local limitations, it is not ideal but as solar conditions favor, I can easily make 100+ connections per sessions.? A better antenna/location will greatly improve performance but I have to figure a way to conceal it from view. I also use a ATU-100 EXT antenna tuner.? SWR is typically 1.0-1.2.? sBitx Watt and SWR indications agree with ATU indications within about 10%. I am running a DE version with all mods and latest firmware.? After latest hardware mod, I lost a set of finals.? Turns out I neglected to tighten heat sink clamp enough.? After replacement, heat sink got much hotter during digital operation (expected).? I added a small 90mm "muffin" style fan to cool heat sink externally.? Heat sink used to get pretty warm to hot without fan but now with fan, no noticable heat buildup.? I like passive cooling as a design element but I might engineer a thermo controlled fan for extra protection later. Good luck, Scott

Scott, Don't know how you figured it out but it works.. Ctrl, TX, rx. Questions: 1. When I run the map command, it appears to run with no errors but after I enter the command there is no feed back. Is that normal? Not really an issue? as I find I can select touch screen or monitor for operation. 2.? I have not been able to find which ctrl I can use? beside? rf tx drive to control the audio tx level. I mention this because when I use sbitx thru browser I have much higher tx output. 3. I am thinking of running jtdx, have you ever tried that? on the sbit radio? Thank again for your help. Joe VE1BWV? Hi Joe,
My pleasure.? I'm glad you acheived success. Yes.? The map command gives no feedback.? I too touch the corner of the touchpad to verify operation. I've not had issues with power output.? After calibrating the set, the Drive slider works great.? For WSJT software, I set th Pwr slider to the top and that works for me.? That said, I have noticed an interaction between the RPi volume settings and the sBitx slider settings.? I generally set the sBitx RF slider after the RPi audio settings and it works for me. I've not looked in jtdx. Sorry. Cheers, Scott? ? |
Scott, Thanks for?the update. I find the WJST-X is more enjoyable to run than sbitx To bad they did not install the version which was developed for small screens. I used it on small 5 inch displays and everything fit on the screen. Now I have to remember where I got it. Age here is 72? so takes a bit longer to find stuff...? I have a flex1500? which I use with WJST-X? and jtdx . Both work well but jdtx has better decode? and other features like AutoCq Which is nice if I am in the shack? ?I set it to autocq and it does cq, logs the call? and pauses , then does another cq etc.. Gridtracker then displays all the action and sends it eqsl or lots. Next challenge is to get Gridtracker working on the pi ,? and interconnected to WJST-X . Lots of fun Take care.. Have a great Day!
