Sbitx software not starting

Hank Beisheim

My sbitx has just been sitting on the shelf and worked fine the last time I started it up. It boots up OK but the sbitx software gets the window banner started but that's it. I have tried a new image and a different Pi4. They all result in the same thing.
The web interface is there but no control over anything. I get a solid green waterfall. I'm stumped. Anybody have and solve this issue or have any other ideas to get this thing going. Need it running for a planned POTA in 2 weeks.

Hank - sometimes this problem fixes itself with a power-down and reboot.

If that doesn't work after a few attempts, try starting the sbitx application from the command line - which will provide some status and debugging information.

Starting from the command line was a huge help to me. ? I got to see a list of errors.

When I try starting from the CLI I get a Repeating I2C and number which just continues scrolling up. Since this happens on 2 different Pi's would it be safe to think that maybe there is an issue with the board itself?

Hank - an I2C bus issue can certainly hang the sbitx application.

Did you install the RTC module in your unit? If so, the wiring may have gotten bumped causing a short.

If you can share more specifics about the errors you are seeing, more specific areas to investigate can be suggested.

Is this a v2 or Dev edition ?

V2. Purchased at Hamvention.

I believe the V2 uses a plug-in RTC module. Make sure the RTC module is fully plugged in and seated.

Steve,
Bingo. Pulled the RTC module and it boots up. Re-inserted the module and all is good.
Thanks so much, it sometimes takes an extra pair of eyes or a brain to get things solved these days.
