Hi and ‘73. I searched and could not find this question covered so I would like to post it please. I’d like to purchase the kit version of the sBitx. Just the tested board. I have all the other components. ?However, I cannot use DHL as DHL has exorbitance additional prices and extra charges for Canadians. It’s absolutely ridiculous. It would cost me another $150 to get it into Canada.?
I would really appreciate if someone could direct me to another purchase solution for the sBitx board kit.
Thank you very much.

Gabe, the manufacturer should be contacted in this regard. Most of the forum users are the same customers as you. I would like to draw your attention to the fact that this is not a simple radio. More computer knowledge is required for proper operation. All this can be learned if you are good at searching the Internet and learn how to handle it. I note that I bought it without RPi, in a box and paid an additional 130 usd for customs. The other day someone here advertised a device in the USA. Look for it, you only have to read it here in the forum. -- Gyula HA3HZ

Gabe,
Is it that DHL alone has exorbitant fees or is it that the Canadian government has the high fees and DHL is just passing them on?
HF Signals only ships via DHL, and HF Signals is the only source of the board, so your only alternative is try and find someone to accept delivery elsewhere and find a shipper that doesn't charge the high fees.
I believe such people are called 'expediters' and are profit-seeking organizations.?
I think you'll just have bite the bullet and pay the fee, or hope a fellow Canadian has tired of their kit and will sell it to you directly - but I suspect such a seller would hope to reclaim the $125 in fees they paid when their kit entered the country.
Good luck, it's a great radio!

Just? a few comments here, as I am in Winnipeg, Canada:
I haven't found DHL to be too bad.? You should see the gouging
going on by UPS.? The shipping time by DHL is something else - in
one case - 50 hours from Hyderabad to my apartment door!? I had a
very recent encounter (last week) with our wonderful post office -
the package from? the USA got into Winnipeg late Monday evening
& I got it late Saturday morning.? DHL should teach our post
office how to do it.

Importing into Canada can exhibit the worst of public/private shipping. The federal government only wants to collect the 13% HST (Canadian VAT) and any applicable tariffs (usually 0-3%), and have implement rules that allow private sector shipping companies to collect those fees as well as charging their own fee for "assessing" the applicable tariff rate. This is this assessment fee that can be exorbitant...
Amazon and Aliexpress seem to have agreements with their shippers so no additional fees are levied. 3rd party vendors on Amazon will often warn that "additional fees may be levied", but I have never experienced that. In fact, often the 13% HST is never levied with these two vendors. As well, items shipped by national postal services usually arrive without any taxes or fees...
I write this as I await the arrival of my mid-band QMX kit from Turkiye. I asked that they ship via Turkish PTT, but it was shipped Fedex, so I am curious to see if any additional importation fees are assessed by Fedex...

I got my sBitx 3 a couple of months ago and I forget the exact amount DHL charged. I am traveling now so can't check. It was the 15 % HST (NB) plus about a $20 fee. I got a notice email from DHL before delivery and paid it online. 73 Glenn VE9GJ

Or as my traveling buddy VY2HF just told me with DHL, UPS, FedEx etc you can look at self brokering as they have to let you. The catch is you need to do it before the package is delivered and you will have to have a CBSA office nearby. Email codhold_tl@... if you want to do this. You do this after you get your email of the DHL charges for HST. 73 Glenn VE9GJ

Its a pain for me to even fill the paperwork out because it can get complicated. ?Thats why if i ship boardsets up there i want all the sets going to one person for the whole country and redistributed up there. ?

FYI: In Canada there is no tarrifs or duties on Amateur Radio Gear. The reference use to be 41417-1.

DHL is the most reasonable of the bunch, for my zBitx I paid $20 for the brokerage fee and $11 GST if I recall correctly - I live in Alberta. You can clear your own packages and the process is explained here
