Programing Help for updating Bitx40
Jeffrey Peters
#Bitx40help
Greetings group, I am very new to programing and would really appreciate anyone who would be willing to reprogram my new BITX40 with the newest software . I would like to use my Bitx40 on the CW mode.? I am willing to learn about the reprogramming, but I do not have a clue where to start.? I have programed a Leno? with the blinking program, and even adjusted the time on and off by changing the code and reprogramming.? I just do not understand how to copy the updated code sketch and the libraries needed.? Thank you for you time and help with this matter. Jeff, K9JP |

Totally biased, but there a book titled Beginning C for Arduino, 2nd Ed. by a guy named Purdum and the first two chapters contain exactly what you're looking for. Go to Amazon, read the reviews and see if it might fit your needs. Yes Jack, I should have done that when I tried to program for your antenna analyzer. I never did get that done, and I give the whole kit to a younger smarter Ham KD8VSQ downstate.Jeff K9JP - Traverse City, MI On Fri, Dec 15, 2017 at 9:39 PM, Jack Purdum via Groups.Io <jjpurdum@...> wrote:

Hello Jeff, All the information you need is located here:?? Read the Readme file and look at the documentation.? If you still have questions, just ask. The hardest part is getting your nano to be seen by your computer in the IDE. Hope this helps, Marco - KG5PRT On Fri, Dec 15, 2017 at 8:39 PM, Jack Purdum via Groups.Io <jjpurdum@...> wrote:

You can also find a wealth of info in the WIKI: There is a topic on installing the IDE and the libraries. Good luck, Marco - KG5PRT On Fri, Dec 15, 2017 at 8:59 PM, M Garza <mgarza896@...> wrote:

Thank You Marco, I will read the Wiki tomorrow morning.? My old eyes are getting tired tonight.?I appreciate your suggestions and guidance on programing.? Lots to learn! 73 de Jeff K9JP On Fri, Dec 15, 2017 at 10:06 PM, M Garza <mgarza896@...> wrote:

Jeff, Doug is probably correct.? There is no real programming needed.? You will just be uploading a new program ("Sketch") into the NANO.?? The real programming has already been done.? ?This is about the same level of difficulty as updating firmware on a piece of hardware, in my opinion. There has been some discussion as to whether you can have the radio powered up and the USB cable connected to your computer at the same time.?? To be safe, make sure your radio is not connected to any power.? The NANO will be powered via the USB connection from the computer. I hope this clears up any confusion that might have existed. ¿ªÔÆÌåÓýJeff,
From reading your QRZ page, you are just one year older than me---it really is just about as easy as they are trying to convince you, but it does take a tiny bit of trial and error.
If it still seems daunting, I'll be happy to program a Raduino for you--no charge other than postal--and I'll measure it's crystal's ?frequency and adjust the software internal numbers so it is right on the money without any calibration.
??
If you can turn on an accurate receiver and just measure the BFO crystal oscillator frequency, I can correct that number in the software also ?& your entire rig will be right on frequency.
At present I'm running 1.24 but probably can download 1.27 ? ??
Just contact me if you need to try this. ? Or, if you've got a relatively recent computer I can sit on the phone with you and try to walk you through some of the process.
W8TEE's book sounds enticing!! ? I'll probably order that.
Just bought Arduino Christmas kits for all my grown-up kids so we can all learn more programming together. ? This is probably one of the more valuable things I can do for my family's men. ??

Good Morning Doug, I should have used the words downloading the sketch and then how to transfer it to the IDE and load the sketch into the nano.On Fri, Dec 15, 2017 at 10:39 PM, Doug W <KD9CYF@...> wrote: Jeffrey, --

All: Thanks...sincerely. I know there's a fine line here in terms of self-promotion, but I have read the competition and, while their books all contain the correct information, they haven't had the benefit of student feedback. Indeed, there are guys out there who can code circles around me. However, I'm blessed with being dumb enough to have tripped over the same stumbling blocks on my journey to learning a language, so I have an appreciation of what they are going through. The hard part is trying out different ways to teach a topic to the point where the students lose that deer-in-the-headlights look and replace it with an ah-ha epiphany moment. In short, for the true rank beginner, I think it's a good book.
