No uploads - support replied
Hi all I had a response from groups.io support. The reason there is no uploads button is because this group has exceeded its 1GB free storage allowance. In order to get the uploads back, needs the paid plan which is $10/month. Or, to remove some files to make more space. The current storage use is: Attachments: 114MB - 11% of 1GB Photos: 598MB - 59% of 1GB Files: 332MB - 33% of 1GB 73 Hans G0UPL http://qrp-labs.com |

I wonder how much of the data is duplicate info?? It sounds like it is time for the users to do some spring cleaning. Marco - KG5PRT? On Feb 7, 2017 12:04 AM, "Darryl Harvey" <darryl@...> wrote:

Hi Hans, So that's the downside of Groups.io? !!? There had to be a catch somewhere and now we've found it,? not really mentioned anywhere is it ! So now we are restricted and I suspect others groups too over this.? How on earth would casual hobby groups be able to fund this monthly fee ? Somewhat unrealistic as a business model.? Hoping for a benefactor ? I have 3 photos but I can't find how to delete them, I'm wondering if that applies to many photos from long gone members.? I have two folders, one is the latest raduino sketch and library which I thought was useful but can delete if you wish. One thing I did note was how many photos/files there are that were attachments.? Could we delete those or are they unlimited,? as postings still takes attachments.? Maybe reopen Yahoo just for files use hi hi.

As I look just now it appears none of the Yahoo imported files can be deleted by original poster, no flags are set. Only my folder loaded since we moved has permissions. Dilema, does Hans delete all folders or do we accept that there is no more posting files ?? Lots of useful stuff there though. Anyone any suggestions where we could move them to so all can access them, apart from Yahoo. |
Agree that attachments are not permanent and should be deleted. As for other content(files, photos). Maybe choose a date and anything older is deleted. 73 Ken VA3ABN On Tue, Feb 7, 2017 at 5:56 AM, Hans Summers <hans.summers@...> wrote:

I do not think that money is an issue now, but what about 1yr from now?? Who will be stuck paying this fee if no generous members are around.? I intended to send out a message that a donate button be placed somewhere, but if no donations come in, someone is ultimately stuck with the bill.? After that thought, i kept quiet.? I think deleting the attachments is a good start.? Is there a setting to block emails with attachments?? Maybe the idea of purging info older than a certain date?? We should find a solution that keeps this free so that no-one is saddled with the bill. Just my opinion. Marco - KG5PRT? Hans: Write to Group and ask them the cost of an unrestricted perpetuity site plan. That is, unlimited storage forever. I have no clue what it might be, but let's say is $2000. If everyone here contributed a dollar, we'd be done with it. Require new members to remit a dollar when they join. Alternatively, find out what some level of storage is that you estimate we'll need for the next couple of years, divide that by the members and we pay it to a PayPal account, from which you secure the storage. New members pay up front. Jack, W8TEE? I like that idea. ?Archive all stuff as is somewhere else, then start fresh. ?Somebody who has been around for awhile copies over anything that matters, like schematics and instructions for older rigs. ?And we have guidelines for what's appropriate to put in the new files section. ?Maybe a tmp directory, for stuff like pictures of you unwrapping the package from hfsigs? ?Maybe somebody maintains an index file, pointing to stuff in the file section they think matters, with the number of the post in the message section that might need to accompany it? Perhaps start a new group: bitx40? ?Leave bitx20 to the build-from-scratch folks? As is, there's way too much clutter to find stuff that matters. ?Having a max of 1gig hovering over us could help keep things findable. ?When somebody asks "what component values should I use for 80 meters", a response of "Just look in the files section" is currently not very helpful. I see that the minima mailing list archive has all attachments stripped from postings. ?That includes html. ?Some posts were sent as html instead of straight ascii text, those have now been lost to posterity.
