Micro-BITX ... Lost in post ? Possibly

I got mine on Monday 8th Jan in VK.?? The board is numbered "742/1" so I assume it's number 742 in 1st batch.? I actually ordered from the 2nd batch but did a deal with a VK7 friend who ordered in batch 1 to build it. 2nd batch is yet to arrive here like many others waiting. Ordered just before Xmas.

Built mine into an old extruded modem case which wan't wide enough, so had to rotate the PCB 90 degrees. This meant I could centralise the LCD display.?? I ran shielded wires for the audio and Mic signals.? I am yet to do the same for the 3 oscillator wires in the extended cable i made.? Receiver sounds pretty nice on 80M last night but lack of AGC is very noticible, so will be looking to do that mod if it comes up.

Carl, That very much mirrors the cause of action I've taken , I've logged into Royal mail, No record of the tracking number or parcel, Phoned Royal mail, Who did check after check on there various sites, To no avail.... Sent an email yo hfsigs who said its been sent ...so from the seem of it, Its anywhere between here and Mumbai .... Although I'm guessing it will turn up at some point in time , It doesn't give me much confidence at the moment .

You and I are in an almost identical situation, I live in London UK. Day 31 here.

I ordered my uBitx on 10th December (first-batch order, like yours), my package was also tracked into and *out of* the Mumbai 'Office of Exchange' on 15th December as confirmed at
I haven't chased it with HF Sigs yet but there seems little point unless to arrange for a replacement to be sent but I am now starting to wonder at what point this is the best course of action (see below and the latest from Royal Mail)? The radio was a Christmas present to myself, I knew it was very unlikely to arrive before Christmas but I really did expect it to have arrived by now.?

I have also seen or heard nothing since Mumbai. I too have spoken with the UK Royal Mail and they have no record of the tracking number as issued by India Post and to back this up the tracking number is not recognized as valid on the UK Royal Mail online tracking system.?As far as the UK Royal Mail is concerned my package is not on the UK system and they can not confirm where it is, if indeed it has arrived in the UK at all. That *is* a concern.??

For further confirmation, I have *this morning* spoken with Customer Services at the London Heathrow Worldwide Distribution Centre (HWDC) (Tel UK 0843 548 8217)?via Royal Mail customer services, which is the UK main sorting office for international mail sent by air to the UK, and they are (1) Unable to track my package, (2) Have assured me that they are *not* suffering a major backlog. UK Royal Mail are quite clear - the package has *never* been on their system.?*This afternoon* the advice of the UK Royal Mail parcel tracking team (Tel UK 0345 774 0740), using my India Post tracking number as reference was that: (1) The Parcel should be here by now and that they strongly recommend initiation of what they called a 'postal investigation' which must be started by *the sender* through India Post, and that India Post would then liaise with UK Royal Mail, I was also advised that an investigation can take up to 8 weeks. They also confirmed that they are not aware of any backlog in UK customs (HMRC) clearances at their international handling centre and in fact said that typical handling time was (quote) "5 days or less at the moment *because* of Christmas".

I assume (or more accurately, I fear) that this proposed 'postal investigation' would involve continued delay whilst the package is located and/or any remedial action is taken, ie. a claim for the loss is submitted and then eventually a replacement (back log permitting) is sent? Ouch.

Where does the responsibility now rest to sort this out because from what I have heard from UK Royal Mail today they don't think that this is their problem furthermore I am sure that the solution is no longer about just being patient!

To be clear, in no way is this a personal criticism of Farhan or the excellent innovations and fun he has brought to the amateur radio community, or the fantastic work he continues to do to offer worthwhile employment opportunities to ladies in India, but it is a genuine concern from a customer (and Bitx enthusiast) who simply wants to enjoy their new radio but who is now starting to fear that their package could be lost/taken and that it's going to be months before a uBitx arrives.

Of course it could arrive tomorrow despite what the UK Royal Mail have told me today ... stranger things have happened!

I ordered my UbitX on the 11/12/17, it was shipped on the 29/12/17 and it was delivered on the 04/01/18 so, I guess I am one of the lucky ones not having to play the waiting game.
Fingers crossed that all those still waiting will receive theirs soon.

I just thought that it David as Taking a Long time .... Well , It would seem that if we are all waiting , That there's not much we can do about it yet ... ?It just would be nice to know roughly where it is ... Is it still in 'The Bag' in Mumbai Airport, Is it winging its way around Europe, Is it in Britain , Wedged behind a posties ?seat in his van ? ... Perhaps we will never know ... Ha?

Thanks for the replies Gents ...

Also in the very same boat. Ordered Dec. 8. Got PayPal confirmation Dec. 16. India Post tracking page hasn't changed much since then ... latest entry says "16/12/2017 16:10 HYDERABAD SORTING (CRC) Bag Despatched to FOREIGN OE MUMBAI". Canada Post says tracking number is valid, but they haven't seen it yet. Emailed HFSigs, response was "This is normal. The tracking is available only upto mumbai. Your package is still in transit and it will be delivered.". I chose to believe that it will show up in a week or two. When I ordered Bitx40 last January, it took about 6 weeks to arrive in Calgary., so there is still some time before I'll start worrying.

One order of parts in July from China arrived in December along with a replacement, I paid the vendor again.
Ended up with two sets. Four months from China is the proverbial Slow boat!

As I understand the Christmas season is very busy for post offices and couriers in the west!

I guess I can’t recommend highly enough to spend the extra $10 for the DHL option. Ordered Dec. 10th, shipped Dec. 20th received in California Dec. 22nd. That was amazing.

It is often difficult building home brew gear these days with so few local sources of parts. The electronics parts stores in the US are now mostly ancient history so we often find ourselves paying as much or more for shipping as what we ordered in parts.

I recently ordered several sets of knobs for the 6 and 4 mm shafts and they arrived in 4 Days from the U.K. by post and is saw no shipping charge added. Amazing again.

Radioshack was the chain of electronics parts stores here but now only independent stores - yes there is still a Radioshack - all parts, no more dumb cell phones and all independent stores, with some previous independent stores owners taking over phone numbers and sometime locations, as well as opening new stores.

Delays now are due to the tremendous success of the project selling out the first run in a couple of days.

Patience is necessary so my second uBITX will take a while but it will still be worth the wait.

My original one is getting better every week. It should be well wrung out by the time the second run starts delivery. So I’m excited the second one will become the heart of much more ambitious project.

That's fine if you are not in the UK. But here using DHL will mean paying import charges of 20% plus about ?12 admin fee. I went with India Post and no additional charges were made. Just a warning to my fellow brits.?

Glenn,

Interesting to see that you have mounted the Raduino remotely from the main pcb. Having read a number of posts suggesting that isn't I good idea, I'm curious how it's working.

I'm still waiting for mine to arrive (preordered) and, like you, have access to cases which aren't wide enough. My plan was to leave the Raduino in place and move the display as others have done.

Regards

Alan

Hi Alan, this morning i changed the remote cabling to run all the Oscillators in RG174 coax cable. See PIc, i should shorten the inners a bit. Nothing really obvious has changed except some encoder tuning 'clicks' are no longer audible.

My case is height challenged in addition, at only 54mm, so remoting the LCD was not possible.

Since this is my first 'BITX" I am not really sure of what to expect. I listened on 80M last night and lots of nice signals received on the band. Yet to try Transmit though.

That's interesting. If it works well as you've configured it, it could be helpful for many builders.

Mine's just arrived as well, I did get a bit more from the tracking, Royal Mail showed it arriving in the UK just before 6pm yesterday, so it was quick this end, India Post tracking gives the same information, so it and all the rest must have left India on Tiger Moth Airlines, Hi

Nicely packed, looks good, the serial number is F20/1.? This is my first exploration of HF, so now to get it assembled and get an aerial up.

Very will done to Farhan and?all the elves.
