I have constructed the following attached flowgraphs hoping they illustrate what I'm trying to say.? The 'Note' blocks explain what they are doing.
You should be able to run them under gnuradio-companion with your simple_radio program running in another window to produce the needed stream.
If they don't load, chances are because I am using gnuradio 3.10.x which is new, let me know what version you are running and I can try to make ones that work with your version.
Again, I'm no expert, just an enthusiast, so feel free to correct me.
