Field Day 2017

Thought you all might be interested in how my BitX-40 did during Field Day. Operating from a site in Essex County, NJ with an elevation of about 500 feet, and using a couple of different dipoles (one full length and one "Hamstick" type) I was able to work 80 stations in 20 different sections. I got a lot of great signal reports. I worked a few other QRP stations, but none of them indicated that they were using BitX rigs.

I'm really happy with the rig!

I had a blast with my BITX-40 on Field Day! I operated at home in class 1E, on battery power, but getting into the spirit of things I took it out in the yard with an improvised table and a lawn chair for several hours on Saturday. Also because the weather here was just perfect for that. I made about ten QSOs on SSB, but many many more on CW. Once I got the operating rhythm down, at times it was hard to tell the difference between the BITX and my 100-watt transceiver for ease of making contacts. The rig really performed like a champ...both coasts and Puerto Rico from the middle of the country. Could hardly be more pleased.

I've been inactive for about?15 or 20 years, and just got back on a couple of weeks ago when I completed the BitX. Need to get my CW skills back again!

You mean it's already happened?

(I've been busy and out of the loop.? I'd hoped to participate somewhere this year.)

I operated with my RACES unit (NI2S) and had quite a few QRP contacts, but like you said none identified as BITX operators. It was a great weekend for it.

Surprised we didn't work each other. If you were operating from?where the ARRL call sign locator says you are, we weren't all that far apart. I was in the South Mountain Reservation in S. Orange.

I have a bag of 30, tiny electret mic elements. I am thinking of connecting 3 in parallel electrically to see if It will improve or even work on my Bitx. Not sure how it will affect the input impedance match or audio level, if at all. Any thoughts?

I'd consider each as a (varying with audio) resistor. At that rate, 3 in parallel would severely drop the available DC 'bias' power, and audio to any or all would be considerably reduced. Phase difference might also degrade things ...? I'd not bother.
