BPF's

I am building up my own external BPF's for 80/40/20. I need to coat the windings to hold them in place. Can I use a spray clear coat? Will it affect the inductance?

Why not use coil dope? The commercial stuff isn't cheap, but it's just polystyrene dissolved in MEK, so not hard to make.

Clear coat is what I have handy. Wanted something quick and easy to use.

MEK will rot your liver in short order without good ventilation.

I like a fine drizzle of hot-melt glue, followed by judicious use of a hot air resolder nozzle to melt and spread the glue. Look for the glue gun nozzles used to add binding tape to the edge of carpet:

you don't realy nees a coating, i have used a spot of superglue to hold it down to the board. it seems to have no perceptible difference.

Bees wax is a better choice! Like in old radios.

I always keep a bit around.

You might get by with a high stearic acid content paraffin wax, but it might just melt and rum all over if left in the car on a summer day. ;>)

Thanks Ashhar.

I do the toroids solidly in place but thought a coating would help hold windings in place.
