BITX QSO Night, Sunday, September 3, 7pm Local Time, 7277 kHz in North America, 7177 kHz elsewhere

BITX QSO Night, Sunday, September 3, 7pm Local Time, 7277 kHz in North America, 7177 kHz elsewhere

Join us as we make contacts from BITX40 to BITX40 on 7.277 MHz in 40 meters!

To participate, call CQ BITX at 7pm sharp, your local time, on Sunday. Repeat your CQ call on the quarter hour (every 15 minutes). It is helpful if you call CQ BITX with your name and location.? Repeat your call a number of times if conditions are weak.

This is a worldwide event starting at 7pm in each time zone. The band tends to improve as the night goes on, so please call CQ and monitor through the evening.?

Report your QSO's, discuss propagation, noise, signal reports, audio reports, antenna type, etc. in this thread.

This is an undirected, scheduled event.? The BITX QSO Night relies on you to call CQ BITX to initiate contacts with other stations, so warm up that final and transmit a few calls at 7pm on Sunday.? Talk to you then!

Due to a fallen tree branch, my antenna is down and I will.be unable to participate for an undetermined amount of time.? :(

Sorry to hear that! Hope you get back on quickly!

Hope you are back soon Paul. I'll miss your reliable signal.

I'm a little lost by this announcement. What exactly do you mean by local time??

7PM in whatever time zone you are?in, although those of us in the Eastern time zone often hang around at 8PM local and 9PM local to see if we can contact anyone out west.

I consider 7.277 (and 7.177) a full time calling frequency for Bitx40.
I would encourage people to call any evening at anytime- someone may be monitoring.
If we only do this on Sunday evening we could hit bad propagation every week.

I call on it every once in a while especially when I am testing something still havent gotten a contact though.

Agreed on the one night a week vs prop.

I too listen often either on my bitx or my Ft-891.

What I have noticed is 7.277 is very close to a few nets and rag chew watering holes.

Don't know what we can do about it as I would think most spots will have that QRM in one time zone or another.

But I am all for more nights a week as well as PSK31 and am happy to SKED most nights.

The band should be wide open since I ?will be away from the rig tonight. Y'all have fun.

Didn't hear anything on 7.277 when I tried at 7PM Eastern. Well, actually I heard major QRM from 7.265, the Tennessee QSO party. I made one contact on that frequency.

Then I tried again around 8:30 Eastern and made the following contacts:
W1LY - Willy - RI
VE3MLM - Robert - ON
VE3THR - Thomas - ON
N8DLP - Kevin - OH (the strongest I heard tonight)

I was hearing a station off freq from 7.277 so I tuned up to find K4TCG in Tennessee doing the QSO party. He became my first QSO on the BitX!

On 7.277 I've only heard sounds of distant stations but can't make out a word of it.

Still not hearing anything intelligible. I *was* planning on making a postage stamp dipole today. Wound the coils last nite. This morning's plumbing project didn't finish till a few mins before 7pm and was quite costly!

I had a QSO with Jerry, W0PWE in Iowa at about 6:45 CDT.? Very good signal and audio.? The Tennessee QSO party interfered with my participation in the BitX net from then on. I made a couple of TN QSO party contacts as well. (K4CTG, AB4GG)

I only heard WI1B calling CQ and we worked; he was the only BITX QSO that I had or heard here in MI.? de KO8S, Karl

I was a few minutes late to the party in the Pacific time zone (got on at about 7:08), but I wasn't able to hear anything after calling CQ for about 10 minutes from CM95, near San Luis Obispo, CA. I don't know if there were any conversations before I got there, or if I was just in a skip zone.?

I may or may not be near my rig next Sunday to try again.?
