Had a nice long QSO with Tom (VE3THR) on 7280 tonight. He was a pretty solid 59 here in NJ on his BitX. I was using my new toy tonight; a Yaesu FT891 but only running 10 watts. We were able to actually talk for about 15 minutes. -- John - WA2FZW

Just about this whole segment of the band is blown out here right now between the ARRL rookie roundup and contests.? Seems to me if the ARRL is going to push something called a rookie roundup they should remind said rookies of: ¡ì97.313?? Transmitter power standards. (a) An amateur station must use the minimum transmitter power necessary to carry out the desired communications. Turn that toaster down pal you're going to burn it.

Jeff G6EXF ... hang in there. Maybe around 0000 zulu (if you are still in the shack) is our greyline +or- . Have been into Spain on the bitx40 . You might stand a better chance of working the eastern seaboard of the States - Keep trying during the week too on 7.277 +/- QRM. Some of us retired guys have sooo much spare time! hihi? Where to the QRP guys hang out in the UK? What bands?? It would be nice if everyone is on the same freq once in a while. Especially with the uBITX now. Good Luck 73 Tom VE3THR

Made contact with AC9RZ at 1520 CST. He was 4x5 here. Nice signal. Haven't heard anyone else. tim ab0wr On Fri, 13 Apr 2018 04:16:56 -0700 "John P" <j.m.price@...> wrote: BITX QSO Afternoon/Evening, Sunday, April 15, 3PM & 7PM Local Time, 7277 kHz in North America, 7177 kHz elsewhere.
Join us as we make contacts from BITX40 to BITX40 on 7.277 MHz in 40 meters!
This is a worldwide event for BITX40 stations starting at 7pm in each time zone. To participate, call CQ BITX on Sunday, starting at?3PM and/or 7PM?your local time. The BITX QSO Night continues through the evening and conditions usually improve after sunset, so it is worthwhile to participate later in the evening.
Suggested Best Operating Practices:
Work at QRP power levels unless conditions require more power. Call and listen for CQ BITX on the hour and every quarter hour. It is helpful if you call CQ BITX with your callsign, name and location. Repeat your callsign a number of times during your CQ BITX and during QSO's. Start a QSO by confirming the callsign, location, name and signal report of the other operator. Say the callsign, name and location of the other operator so others can hear. If the frequency is busy, avoid long conversations. After your initial QSO is complete, ask if there are any other stations who would like to contact.
Report your QSO's, discuss propagation, noise, signal reports, audio reports, antenna type, etc. in this thread.
This is an undirected, scheduled event.? The BITX QSO Night relies on you to call CQ BITX to initiate contacts with other stations, so warm up that final and transmit a few calls on Sunday evening.? Talk to you then! -- John - WA2FZW

Thanks Doug AC9RZ...could hear you most of the time. You seem to be getting out better than receive. Very noisy band up here. Must be a lot of lightning on its way. You were 3x3 in the clear.? Also worked KC1AT and maybe W8TEE. Static crashes, freezing rain/sleet/ice pellets occuring and persisting into this evening so much fun on my BITX40!!
|
Tom VE3THR thanks for your persistence. ?You have the distinction of my first contact since earning my Extra ticket 3 months ago (too much time in the salt mine, not enough in the shack).?
|
TOM,? That's me. I could barely hear a VE3 something answer my CQ that must have been you but the noise is so bad here I couldn't copy anything else. ?Thanks for trying.? Doug? AC9RZ?

at 2000Z 4PM local I can hear AC9RZ calling CQ. No reply. Also heard WA2FZW John calling CQ at 3pm. Keep trying guys.
|
I can, too, but very weak and down in the mud most of the time. I also heard a Bravo Echo Charlie, but didn't get the call.
