BITX40 V2.03 UPGRADE

JH1OJY

I changed? software V1.27.3 to?V2.03.
I noticed that?LSB CW output power is slightly down to 3w from 5w than before.
I tried to ajust BFO freq and VFO?High/Low and so on?for output power up but I could not.
There is VFO Drive Level control setting?on V1.27.3 but no?V2.03.
All?I need is to modify VFO Drive Level in sketch or driver? level volume up in hardware.
Please let me know?how to get? output power up.

Hi Hiro san,
what resistor value are you using for the CW CARRIER mod?

Originally (in v1), it was recommended to use 10K. But in some cases this
will not give sufficient drive. In that case you need to reduce the
resistor value. In the latest updated instructions, it is recommended to
use 4.7K:

You can experiment even smaller values. But never use less than 1K!

Hiro :?

Did you make the change to value of the resistor used for the carrier mod ? ?Originally this was 10K but in V2.03?
the new recommended value is 4.7K . ?We found that with the lower value resistor it was easier to adjust the CW BFO frequencies
for minimal carrier on PTT closure (i.e. <10 mW) while still getting close to full power out. ?

The other thing to try is in the SETTINGS menu set VFO LOW (it defaults to VFO HIGH). I found that I am getting slightly more power out
with VFO LOW. The setting simply toggles between VFO HIGH/LOW .

Thanks for nice info.
I had replaced 10k to 4.7k before this question.
I tried to replace 4.7k to 2.4k or 1.5k.? finally 1.5k but output power doesn't go up, still 3w.
This resister is available for CW but not LSB I think.?
Anyway I will search how to make output power?up.

Hi Hiro san,

Each time after you replaced the resistor to a lower value, did you also
perform recalibration?
Changing the resistor value may have some effect on the optimum
calibration point for maximum power output in CW.

Do you have correct power output in other modes (LSB, USB, CWU) or only in
CWL?
Is power output correct in VFO setting LOW or HIGH?
What VFO calibration value (ppm), and what BFO frequencies did you find
during calibration procedures for each mode?
